Remote Sensing & GIS Data & Systems Training and Evaluation Internship

Scope of Internship:

Under the guidance of the NLT Chief Scientist and in collaboration with other team members, the intern(s) will be involved in the following areas:

Learning, Development & Maintenance:

  • Explore and document spatial, spectral, and temporal characteristics of remotely sensed data.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of GIS databases and systems.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze spatial data using GIS software.
  • Create maps, charts, and visualizations to support data analysis and reporting.

Data Identification, Quality Control & Analysis:

  • Identify and evaluate new remotely sensed data sources.
  • Perform quality control of new data sources and derived products.
  • Evaluate and compare Remote Sensing data including SAR, LiDAR, and other EO imagery from public and private providers.
  • Assist with data entry, data cleaning, meta-data development, and quality control processes.

Tool, Product & Application Development:

  • Collaborate on tools and products for satellite imagery tasking.
  • Develop tools to ingest, analyze, and visualize remotely sensed data.
  • Support the implementation of GIS applications and tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve GIS-related issues.

Integration, Utilization & Technical Support:

  • Incorporate remote sensing data into GIS platforms.
  • Assess the utilization of innovative remote sensing technologies.
  • Provide technical support to end-users of GIS systems.

Reporting, Coordination & Research:

  • Compile reports and white papers.
  • Coordinate data collection and delivery.
  • Conduct research to support GIS projects.

Visualization & Presentation:

  • Assist in developing Dashboards, Infographics, Cartographic Products, and Storymaps.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of GIS principles, concepts, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or R.
  • Familiarity with building and maintaining GIS databases.
  • Experience with land surveying techniques is a plus.
  • Knowledge of APIs for integrating GIS data.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Note: This is an internship position based on availability of projects and activities that qualify for internship. NLT is willing to work with individual candidates on compensation and/or internship credit requirements with accredited academic institutions.
