Organization and Role Summary

Mary's Path changes lives Two at a Time. Pregnant and parenting teenage moms in the foster care system are placed with us. These teen moms who have been abused, neglected, and/or trafficked for sex find a safe place to heal from their trauma, get back on the path to finish high school, and learn to be loving parents. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and abuse and show these teen moms they can live lives of dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency.

As Residential Counselor, you will impact Mary’s Path’s invaluable mission by providing direct care and supervision of resident minors and their babies. You will report to the Residential Staff Manager and at times take direction and/or coaching support from the Senior Residential Counselor or Residential Program Manager/STRTP Administrator.

Role Responsibilities

General

  • Exhibit a professional attitude and model appropriate attire, communication and personal interaction for residents
  • Attend all orientations, trainings and staff meetings as directed
  • Complete all training requirements (40 hrs. annually)
  • Be a flexible member of the team by assisting and supporting other programs or staff as needed, working collaboratively to achieve the organizational goals and mission
  • Log in and check all staff communication each day prior to working in the home

Childcare and Supervision

  • Oversee the general safety and well-being of all residents on assigned shift
  • Conduct and document checks for residents every 15 minutes
  • Teach by example with positive role modeling and encouragement
  • Assist as needed with residents' personal care and planned activities
  • Administer Behavioral Support & Management Plan, apply appropriate methods of discipline, and use emergency interventions if needed, according to Pro-ACT principles
  • Maintain excellent professional and personal boundaries with residents
  • Comply with the residents' personal rights
  • Assure compliance of residents with the House Rules
  • Participate in shift transition meetings at the beginning of each shift and review Supervision Log
  • Follow all Community Care Licensing and Title 22 regulations regarding food storage and preparation
  • Transport residents and babies to planned and unplanned appointments as needed.
  • Monitor onsite and offsite visits between residents and family members/friends. Complete documentation related to those visits
  • Provide assistance and supervision to new mothers, including taking over care of the baby when appropriate
  • Assure that infants/toddlers needs are met regarding diaper changing, feeding and supervision by the minor mother or by you
  • Alert the Social Service Team to residents' and babies' progress in the Program and identify possible needs
  • Perform all required documentations daily, including but not limited to entries in the communication log, clinical charts, progress notes, Supervision Log as well as Special Incident Reports, Child Abuse Reporting and Ouch Reports if required
  • Assure appropriate procedures are followed for on-site and off-site passes, including the passing of medications and monitoring visits as necessary
  • Any other responsibilities as designated by the Residential Staff Manager or CEO.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of full-time experience working in a STRTP, group home or residential substance abuse program preferred
  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Due to the nature of this position’s duties, only women may hold the position
  • Positive attitude and commitment to change the lives of teen moms and their children
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to tailor communication to varying audiences
  • Demonstrated strength in exhibiting the following competencies: collaboration, empathy, resilience, situational adaptability and valuing the differences across diverse populations
  • Able to make good judgment decisions with situational discretion
  • Able to engage and build trust with diverse populations and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Able to serve as a positive role-model, including exhibiting professionalism, appropriate appearance and demeanor
  • Able to contribute to a strengths-based, positive culture that supports residents and their babies utilizing a trauma-focused paradigm
  • Able be punctual and flexible, as well as ability to adhere to standards set by Mary’s Path in all areas
  • Ability to self-manage and demonstrate consistent accountability to job expectations
  • Bilingual skills are preferred but not required

  • Regularly required by the duties of this job to move, ascend and descend, remain stationary, position oneself to access equipment and supplies, communicate, exchange information and observe details at close and medium range within work surroundings
  • Wear PPE and follow universal precautions as needed
  • Must be able to move/traverse spaces frequently, transport to 25lbs, and adjust mobility to serve in various spaces of home environments
  • Mary’s Path is a non-smoking environment
