About Café Momentum:

Café Momentum Pittsburgh is a nonprofit restaurant and culinary training facility that provides life skills, education, and employment to youth who've been involved in the justice system. Over the course of our 12-month program, interns rotate through all aspects of the restaurant, while focusing on the development of social and life skills alongside a comprehensive case management team. In so doing, we work to establish a baseline of stability in their young lives, providing an ecosystem of support around our interns. Serving fresh, locally sourced, sophisticated American cuisine, every meal is prepared and served by our team of chefs and the young men and women involved in our program.

Position Summary:

Café Momentum Pittsburgh seeks an experienced Restaurant General Manager for a new nonprofit restaurant that works to provide employment, life skills training, and wraparound care to justice system-involved youth. The ideal candidate is a seasoned restaurant professional who is skilled in exceptional customer service and operational management and has a deep desire to work with youth and positively contribute to the community. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position oversees all front of house and catering staff.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Identifies operational objectives and delegates responsibilities to restaurant and catering staff to ensure success
  • Works closely with the FOH Service Manager to provide development opportunities for interns and support rotations
  • Provides regular reporting to Director of Operations (restaurant performance analysis, inventories, catering sales, 30/60/90 day objectives)
  • Oversees the ordering and inventory of wine and beer
  • Consistently reviews operations and staff to identify any issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement
  • Provides coaching and performance assessment for (non-intern) FOH restaurant and catering staff
  • Maintains schedules for (non-intern) FOH restaurant and catering staff
  • Contributes feedback in weekly intern updates/reviews and in staff meetings
  • Ensures areas of the restaurant that are open to the public (dining room, restrooms, etc.) are well-maintained and meet the highest standards of cleanliness
  • Oversees catering director and ensures that all catering inquiries are handled with a high level of professionalism
  • Ensures proper supervision and event management is present at all dining services, special events, and catering events
  • Ensures proper safety and security systems and procedures are followed to ensure the health and safety of employees and guests
  • Ensures adherence to all local, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Schedule will typically consist of five (5) 8-10-hour shifts weekly, depending on catering and events. Night and weekend availability is required.

Your Qualifications & Skills:

  • The ideal candidate is a seasoned restaurant professional who is skilled in exceptional customer service and operational management and has a deep desire to work with youth and positively contribute to the community
  • Google Suite and Microsoft Office proficient
  • Must be a proactive self-starter and take initiative to identify and complete tasks to assist team members to work effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and willingness to exceed expectations is required to be successful in this position
  • Positive disposition, attention to detail, flexible and adaptable with the ability to learn new tasks quickly while multi-tasking many responsibilities
  • Experience working with youth and sensitivity to cultural backgrounds
  • Passion for working with youth as evidenced by past experiences and ability to build relationships
  • Good role model to young people in personal character, integrity, and behavior
  • Creative and energetic
  • This position requires working with interns/juveniles who may have committed dangerous acts; applicant should possess a high tolerance for working in a possible emotionally demanding/stressful work environment

Salary & Benefits:

Salary is $70,000-$80,000. Benefits include:

Working Environment:

This is a full-time position. On-site work may be conducted in restaurant environments, outdoor environments, detention facilities, in the community (homes, business, etc.), in street environments, and with system-involved individuals. This role also uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, document projectors, filing cabinets and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This role is frequently required to stand for six continuous hours (may stoop, squat, kneel, and end); bends from a standing position in a manner that allows the palms to touch the knees; bends from a waist in a standing position with arms outstretched for an extended period of time; twists, turns, and/or stretches from side to side; lifts, carries, and/or supports 40 pounds from shoulder level to above the head; performs duties requiring repetitive and non-repetitive motions with hands and wrists; works with caustic and non-caustic chemicals; and may work in a hot and/or humid environment.
