Roll-Off Attendant

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs all activities associated with the operation and maintenance of Roll-Off Sites.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision received in accordance with the Southern Idaho Solid Waste Organizational Chart.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Provides prompt, courteous, and accurate customer service to the public; responds to requests for information in order to maintain positive customer service relations.

· Apprises public of requirements, policies, and fees; resolves issues or seeks supervisory assistance.

· Visually inspect customers’ material loads to ensure compliance with SISW permits, operation plans and waste acceptance policies.

· Accurately performs accounting related duties pertaining to the receipt of cash and check receipts in order to ensure the integrity of the financial system.

· Promptly, courteously, and accurately receives cash, checks and/or credit payments for solid waste disposal transactions. Issues receipts to customers remitting payments.

· Balances the till daily using receipts, cash, and an adding machine; identifies errors and takes appropriate steps to remedy and/or report to the supervisor if not remedied. Safeguards all receipt of cash/checks in accordance with accounting policies and procedures

· Promptly and courteously answers the roll-off site telephone and provides accurate information in response to inquiries.

· Responds to public’s questions regarding prices, acceptable waste, hours of operation, and directions to facility.

· Maintains roll-off site in a safe and clean condition at all times. Performs custodial duties to clean and maintain break areas.

· Identify acceptable wastes and direct traffic to the proper disposal area;

· Coordinates off site shipment of roll off containers with dispatch and/or waste haul department.

· Performs routine maintenance of roll-off sites and daily cleaning of litter from property and fence lines;

· Operates a variety of hand and power tools in performing general maintenance of roll-off sites;

· Performs other related job duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent.

*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of:

· Materials and tools used in general site maintenance;

· Hazards and safety precautions associated with roll-off site operations;

· Basic interpersonal communication skills;

· Southern Idaho Solid Waste Policies and Procedures

Ability to:

· Complete daily activities in a dynamic work environment;

· Perform manual tasks for sustained periods of time;

· Perform minor site maintenance and repair;

· Follow written and verbal instructions;

· Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;

· Perform basic math and handle cash;

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public and supervisors;

· Stay on site during the entire shift and not leave roll-off site unattended during operating hours;

· Comply with applicable district and departmental policies/safety standards and wear required personal protective equipment;

Work Environment:

· Daily exposure to hazards commonly associated with solid waste operations.

· Tasks require various physical activities, generally nominal muscular strain, such as lifting, walking, standing, stooping, reaching, and may be required to lift and/or pull up to 50 pounds.

· Communication, hearing and seeing essential in performance of daily tasks.

· Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking.

· Daily exposure to weather extremes and environmental conditions typical of solid waste operations.

· Exposure to bio-hazards and chemicals possible due to unknown materials brought in loads to roll-off sites.

Pay: From $15.33 per hour
