Job Summary
This position is responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive school environment by deterring unacceptable student activities and preventing potential problems from arising and displays moral, ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and partner agencies and provides support for students and staff through restorative practices.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Regional Alternative Education Services
- Greet and wand students every day.
- Ride the bus from/to the Monmouth campus each morning and afternoon.
- Monitor student movement and escort students throughout the school building and its campus, including restrooms, gym, hallways, outdoors, etc. Check bathrooms before and after student use.
- Maintain regular communication and collaborate with the RAES principal, assistant director, and staff.
- Keep the classroom and school environment safe, clean, and tidy at all times.
- Collaborate with RAES Principal, Assistant Director, RAES staff to ensure the threat assessment plan is implemented and revisited regularly.
- Ensure the Crisis Management Plan and Threat Assessment Plan are followed by staff and students. Actively engage as a member of the ROE Safety Committee and Regional Threat Assessment team.
- Support RAES staff in maintaining a safe classroom environment conducive to learning by employing various appropriate teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with RAES staff to promote student engagement and motivation for the learning process and the development of good study habits.
- Maintain documentation of student progress through authentic observations and restorative conversations.
- Support RAES staff in recognizing learning discrepancies and make referrals as appropriate.
- Develop, implement, and improve, per school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied in partnership with RAES staff.
- Collaborate with RAES staff to take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain and protect confidentiality of records and information related to students, staff, and investigation, and adhere to applicable regulations and laws when sharing information
- Adhere and enforce applicable federal statutes and regulations, Illinois law, Illinois School Code rules and regulations, ROE policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
- Follows and enforces school rules and regulations for staff and students, utilizing the appropriate handbooks.
- Work with RAES staff to supervise assigned students when circumstances require a brief absence from the assignment and/or classroom.
- Report immediately to the principal or assistant director all unusual incidents of concern.
- Communicate the positive aspects of our school program both internally and externally.
- Enter data into appropriate areas for students and school records.
- Support students one-on-one as needed or requested.
- Cooperate with administration in planning and participating in appropriate in-service training programs at school.
- Communicate regularly with student’s guardians/caregivers regarding attendance or behavioral concerns. Work cooperatively with guardians/caregivers to strengthen the educational program for their children.
- Work with RAES staff in evaluating students' accomplishments regularly using multiple assessment methods.
- Maintain the ROE vehicle through monthly checks and schedule and complete oil changes.
- Maintain regular attendance and visibility in all classrooms in the RAES program.
- Assist in facilitating small group restorative circles.
- Utilize restorative practices (specifically de-escalation) to create a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with partner agencies to provide community resources to meet student and school needs. Assist in the planning of community engagement and school functions.
- May be required to perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal of Regional Alternative Education Services and Assistant Director.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, & CRITICAL SKILLS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Virtual Meeting Platforms.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and an acceptable/courteous manner.
- Understanding and awareness of multicultural needs
- Maintaining a positive and collaborative relationship/attitude across all ROE programs.
SCHEDULING
The work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., based on the ROE Calendar, 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week. The schedule is subject to change with ROE demands.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
