Responsible for the overall management of the Reuse Center’s day-to-day operations as well as plays an active role in the planning for the Reuse Center’s future. Oversees retail reuse center operations including retail accounting, donation receipts, material turnover, advertising, product placement within Reuse Center, developing new markets for material sales and identifying new sources for material donations, etc.


Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate administrative procedures and company policies, including oversight of materials used.
  • Recognizes that the Reuse Center is often one's first impression of Lifecycle Building Center and ensures LBC’s reputation and helps maintain a clean, well merchandised, and orderly environment.
  • Oversees departmental staff and volunteers and ensures positions are adequately covered.
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards and accident procedures; including, but not limited to completing incident reports, near miss reports, and identifying skills gaps in regards to staff and customer safety.
  • Help identify solutions to issues that may arise relating to operations so that the smooth running of the Reuse Center is optimally maintained.
  • Participate with others developing, rolling out and measuring marketing, advertising, and social media programs to increase donations, sales, and volunteer participation, including, but not limited to compiling and sending images, statistics, etc.
  • Implement and maintain personnel policies
  • Train and manage Reuse Center staff and volunteers in accordance with policies and ensure staff is well versed about LBC's programs and activities.
  • Facilitate a positive, team-oriented environment in which all staff and volunteers are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
  • Address and document violations of policies and code of conduct by staff and recommend action regarding chronic or serious situations.
  • Evaluate staff and volunteer performance in accordance with job descriptions and performance evaluation procedures and recommend performance actions to the Director of Operations.
  • Work in recruiting, training, and retaining staff and volunteers for the Reuse Center.
  • Provide daily/weekly/monthly reports as directed by the Director of Operations, including but not limited to daily accounting of sales transactions
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring systems for daily cash and credit transactions and deposits. Ensures proper procedures are followed, including opening and closing cash registers
  • Provide accurate accounting records of revenues and expenses as required or requested.
  • Approve employee and volunteer recording of time worked and Paid Time Off requests.
  • Approve, ensure accurate coding and submit payable invoices on a timely basis.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Operations to develop annual operating budgets and recommend capital expenditures.
  • Provide backup for cashier when needed.
  • Develop and recommend policy for sales.
  • Monitor competitive merchandise market environment (pricing and practices).
  • Work with the management team to develop methods that increase sales and decrease costs.
  • Prepare store revenue deposits, coordinate deposit transfers with appropriate staff
  • Price and process incoming material in conjunction with other LBC Staff
  • Provide leadership on product location and display within the warehouse facility to maximize efficiency in inventory and operations, maximize sales, and maintain safe accessibility to materials including, but not limited to ample walking room, minimizing of sharp edges or trip hazards
  • Coordinate with others the creation and placement of appropriate signage on existing or incoming materials
  • Purge materials in conjunction with Director of Operations or Donations & Field Operations Manager as needed and in keeping with organizational policies and procedures
  • Support refinement process for material inventory/material donor/customer database
  • Works alongside Director of Operations, Donations & Field Operations Manager and Warehouse & Inventory Manager to prepare the Reuse Center for incoming material donations, and ensure, in coordination with others, that accurate receipts are sent for all applicable material donations.
  • Assist with organizational strategic planning and annual work plan development, including but not limited to participating in the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategies, goals and objectives..
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications to ensure consistent “LBC Language Usage Standards” are met and reflect the mission and vision of LBC
  • Work alongside the Director of Operations, Warehouse & Inventory Manager, and Donations & Field Operations Manager to increase the number of successful Nonprofit Material MATCH Program application awards by securing in-store inventory with nonprofits in need of material donations.
  • Work alongside the Warehouse & Inventory Manager and Director of Operations to launch an online store with an accurate electronic inventory log.
  • Work alongside Director of Operations and Warehouse & Inventory Manager to introduce purchased and consignment inventory streams.

As an employee representing Lifecycle Building Center, the individual selected for this position will be expected to make a commitment to providing the highest quality of customer service to the organization’s internal and external customers in every interaction.

Internal Customers: Executive Director, Leadership Team, all staff, and volunteers

External Customers: Donors and Members, Customers, Vendors, other organization representatives, and the community at large.



- High School Diploma or Equivalent

- Two (2) years of relevant experience in construction and/or retail sales


- Associate Degree or Higher

- Five (5) or more years of building material retail sales experience


  • A passion for and willingness to learn about sustainability, green building practices, deconstruction and building material reuse.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with attention to detail, ability to multi-task and work under pressure.

  • Experience in the use of software programs such as Google Drive, myEmma, Dropbox, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Familiarity with Salesforce preferred.

  • Ability to multi-task and undertake several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional nights and weekends
