About Us: The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.

Position Overview:

The SCA Fellow Intern will play a vital role in programs by contributing to our urban green and community engagement initiatives. As an SCA Fellow, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in program implementation, program development, administrative task(s) and organizing community events. This opportunity provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills, network, and make a positive impact on the environment. All SCA Fellow Interns will operate as a cohort, participating in orientation, training, and ongoing check-ins together over the twelve weeks.

Department: Programs/Community

Location: Remote/ NW Indiana Residents Preferred.

Duration: January 8, 2024 – March 29, 2024 (12 Weeks, 25 hours per week)


  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing SCA led community volunteer events.
  • Participate in data collection and analysis related to urban forestry.
  • Collaborate across departments on program improvements, including training, risk & safety, marketing and program implementation.
  • Compile contact list(s).
  • Engage in community outreach with local community organizations, universities and k-12 schools.
  • Contribute to NWI program specific SOP’s and project description(s).
  • Engage with the community partners and leaders and promote awareness of SCA programs and impact in the region.
  • Attend and actively participate in needed orientation, meetings, training sessions, and check-ins.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of project(s) worked on for the duration of the fellowship.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the NW Indiana community program manager or the Student Conservation Association.


  • Enrollment in or recent graduation from a college or university program in program management, urban forestry, education, natural science and/or hospitality.
  • Strong passion for conservation and community engagement.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft application(s), event planning and program management.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and tackle new challenges with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the Fellow internship and attend necessary orientation, trainings, check-ins, and meetings.
  • Physical fitness and the capability to perform fieldwork and outdoor activities.
  • Commitment to adhering to safety procedures and environmental ethics.
  • Access to a computer, reliable internet connectivity and ability to work remotely [if applicable].
  • Familiar with NW Indiana ecosystems & history.
  • Local candidates preferred.
