Job Summary
As a School Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic achievement, personal and social development, and career planning. You will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to create a safe and nurturing environment conducive to learning and growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Holds a professional certificate within the grade levels for which the school counselor
endorsement is requested.
2. Has completed an institution's approved Master's Degree for school counselor including the culminating clinical experience within the grade levels shown on the professional certificate.
3. Possesses individual and group counseling skills.
4. Holds current knowledge of guidance and counseling concepts and practices.
5. Demonstrates writing and speaking skills.
6. Has the ability to function ni crisis situations.
7. Holds knowledge of contemporary educational, emotional and social issues concerning students and families.
8. Shows knowledge of community and agency resources.
9. Possesses school counseling experience.
10. Possesses ability to work with school-administrators/teachers/parents.
11. Shows ability to work across department and inter-professional lines. 12. Reports to the school principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides individual and group counseling for personal growth and self-understanding. Provides crisis intervention for students who have serious, urgent and chronic problems and serves on the Crisis Response Team.
3) Pushes into K-5 classrooms to provide SEL education and techniques for personal growth, self-understanding, stress management and self-regulation.
4) Provides anti-bullying education to students.
5) Maintains procedures for following confidentiality and ethical codes.
6) Confers with teachers, administrators and parents regarding student needs.
7) Consults with teachers regarding the developmental needs of individual students. Participates ni ISP meetings and Student Assistance Team meetings.
9) Contributes to SEL curriculum development.
10) Assists in the screening of students for dyslexia, ADHD, Autism or learning disabilities, etc., and recommends student supports or alternate educational programs.
11) Assists in coordinating the referral of students to KCS Specialists and to community resources
