Job Summary:
The Sr. Accountant/Assistant Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records. This position is responsible for various accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, month-end close activities, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP and SEC regulations. The Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the finance team and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting department.
As Sr. Accountant/Assistant Controller, your responsibilities will be:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare and record journal entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per GAAP and SEC reporting requirements (10-Q, 10-K).
- Analyze financial data and provide variance explanations.
- Assist in the preparation of supporting schedules for audits and reviews.
General Ledger Maintenance
- Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data.
- Review and analyze account balances and transactions.
- Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
Review and supervision of functions performed by Accounting Clerk(s)
- Supervise, review, and manage accounts payable functions performed by the Accounting Clerk, including invoices and credit card transactions/statements
- Supervise, review and manage billings and receivable functions to be prepared by the Accounting Clerk.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC regulations, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Assist in the documentation and testing of internal controls.
- Participate in audits and reviews conducted by external and internal auditors.
- Assist with tax related items.
Assistance with department administrative responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of Board and Committee materials, schedules, and reports
- Assist in the administration, documentation and reporting related to the Incentive Stock program
Process Improvement & Special Projects
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by management.
- Help with the implementation of new accounting standards.
Team Collaboration
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Perform all reasonable requests for assistance from the CFO and Controller to assist in the accounting, reporting, compliance and governance requirements of the Company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a publicly traded company.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Certification (Preferred): CPA or progress towards CPA certification
Skills & Abilities:

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, and demanding environment.
