The Role
The Senior Construction Project Manager is responsible for ensuring Zeem’s electric vehicle charging depots are constructed subject to exacting standards safely, on time, and on budget. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Development, Engineering, Product, Operations, Finance, and Legal teams to design, permit, plan, estimate and build industrial scale charging facilities across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage the Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (“EPC”) (or other contracting strategy) contracting process for assigned projects including bid evaluations, contract negotiation (in collaboration with Zeem Legal), day-to day oversight of contractors, and other required support of onsite construction
· Prepare detailed project plans, schedules and cost estimates for all project phases
· Work closely with contractors, vendors, utilities, and governmental authorities to research and obtain necessary permits, rights of way, easements, and access necessary to complete the project.
· Prepare, submit, and oversee utility interconnection requests and associated load study processes to determine the technical and economic viability of grid connections
· Lead the procurement of major EVSE components through a formal bid evaluation and selection process.
· Tightly manage project scope, schedules, quality, and budget. Track change orders and manage cost overruns to a minimum
· Maintain construction project documentation, including detailed project timeline (Microsoft Project or similar software)
· Develop and issue progress report to company management including status of project milestones, task dependencies, critical issues and cost variances
· Provide support for a smooth handover of the project to the Operations team from start-up and commissioning through commercial operations.
· Collaborate with the Business Development team to respond to RFIs and RFPs
· Review and provide input on technical assumptions in pro forma models and annual budgets
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or equivalent. Relevant certifications (Licensed Professional Engineer PE/EIT, PMP) are a plus.
· Minimum of 10 years combined experience gained at a utility, independent power producer, renewable energy developer, or consultancy in one or more of the following:
· Utility scale power plant development/construction (solar, wind, thermal)
· Battery Energy Storage Systems (“BESS”)
· Electrical vehicle infrastructure or Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (“EVSE”), including both Level 2 and Level 3 charger installations
· At least 5 years’ direct experience with electric utility grid interconnection management.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to draft written presentation materials and effectively present them live to executive management, board of directors, outside investors, and industry groups
· Strong experience in project management (Microsoft Project or equivalent), CAD (AutoCAD), and/or BIM (Revit, Bluebeam) software
· Competency in with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, & Vizio)
· Working knowledge of ASCE standards, applicable local codes, and associated Authorities Having Jurisdiction (“AHJs”)
· Familiarity with electrical standards (UL/IEEE), National Electrical Code, NFPA requirements, and U.S. utility interconnection standards.
· Good working knowledge of bulk power system engineering and design (transmission & distribution)
· Knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering
Location
· The position will be located in our El Segundo (Los Angeles), CA headquarters
· Travel up to 25% - 50% required to oversee assigned construction projects
The annual compensation estimate for this role is within the range of $146,000 - $202,000, plus the possibility of additional short term incentive compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, business needs, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
