The NETA Business Center provides accounting services for public broadcasting organizations and other non-profit institutions across the country. We are true partners for our clients! As a Senior Controller, you will play a pivotal role in managing Business Center client relationships and delivering exceptional financial services. In this leadership position, the Senior Controller oversees a team of expert Controllers, Staff Accountants, and subject matter experts across various domains, including HR and Payroll Services. The Senior Controller provides financial oversight, accounting, cash management, and budgeting to a select group of clients. To ensure alignment with our core working hours in the West Coast, we prefer candidates in the Mountain and Pacific Time Zone regions.

REGULAR DUTIES:

  • Manages team of Business Center staff (senior, junior accountants, administrative assistants) from training through coaching, mentoring, direction and oversight as needed, including annual performance evaluations.
  • Participates in client’s strategic planning and assists in CFO capacity for “big picture” oversight.
  • Provides monthly Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position, and Cash Flow Statement and presents monthly financials to client’s designated committees/boards.
  • Compiles daily and monthly internal management reports as requested.
  • Oversees cash management and forecasting.
  • Reviews income on a monthly basis to ensure that it is coded appropriately in accordance with appropriate accounting principles (GAAP, FASB, GASB, et. al) pertaining to the client.
  • Prepares monthly federal and state financial and internal reports as required by clients.
  • Provides posting approvals.
  • Coordinates the preparation of the client’s annual budget.
  • Work with external auditors to provide all necessary data for Business Center clients.
  • Responsible for client’s investment data entry and gain/loss calculations.
  • Reviews senior accountant prepared Annual Financial Report (AFR) and Station Activity Benchmarking Study (SABS) reports and ensures the reports are filed on time with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
  • Provides excellent client support in a timely manner.
  • Stays current on regulations, trends, best practices and incorporates them into client solutions. (May also write white papers and articles and make presentations.)
  • Attends finance committee, audit committee, and board of director’s meetings, either by teleconference, in person, or telephone as required by the client, as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: (An equivalent amount of training, education and experience will also be considered.)

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in finance or accounting; graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in accounting.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a leadership position.
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations, preferably in public broadcasting.
  • Excellent computer skills, including accounting software, and electronic spreadsheets, preferably experience with SAGE Intaact, Bill.com and related financial software.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to lead teams and to present to boards.
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven abilities with regard to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong positive interpersonal skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
