Position Summary:

The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is seeking a  Senior Mechanical Engineer  to join our team. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the sawmill development process, including research and development (R&D) activities.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing new technologies, equipment, mechanical and other components, as well as production processes for deployment at TLM’s sawmills. Specifically, as a TLM Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will own complex hardware from cradle to grave. In this role, you will design, develop, test, and implement complex sawmilling machinery, equipment, and subsystems to enable safe, quality and fast production of lumber products. This position interacts regularly with senior leadership during critical design, test, and implementation phases. There are several sub-teams within the TLM engineering group, each with different focus areas (e.g., breakdown, debarking, grading, etc.). All applicants will be considered broadly and then matched to a specific team or program after factoring in best technical fit and candidate preference.

This position is perfect for someone looking for the freedom to be creative—TLM prides itself on being fast, nimble, and open to new ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Own hardware from conceptual design through production and in-mill operation
  • Drive design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization
  • Rapidly iterate on designs leveraging analysis to inform systems trades to improve system quality and functionality
  • Work collaboratively with TLM’s operations and supply chain teams to establish a product lifecycle with emphasis on cost, complexity, and quality
  • Support the design and realization of efficient in-house production lines for TLM’s sawmilling equipment
  • Perform functional, environmental, and performance testing on hardware to validate analysis and demonstrate compliance to design criteria
  • Own equipment development timeline through conception, design, assembly, test, and in-mill implementation
  • Demonstrate extreme ownership of product outcomes at every stage of system design, development, test and implementation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 7+ years' experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
  • 3+ years’ experience in high-rate manufacturing environments.
  • Prior ownership of a complex component or assembly from initial design through high-volume production ramp
  • Experience with process modeling and simulation is highly desirable.
  • Must have experience with process control, quality, and safety.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work on a team under pressure under deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment.
