Ecosystem Planning and Restoration, LLC, (EPR) has an open position for a full-time Senior Water Resources Engineer in our Houston, TX office.

Our experience includes hundreds of stream & wetland restoration projects, design & construction, development of regional curves and reference reach data sets and monitoring of past projects to continually advance the science for Environmental Services. Our environmental planning services assist federal, state, municipal organizations, and private clients with their regulatory compliance needs. We have extensive experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related state regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Manage environmental projects including contracting; watershed assessments, fluvial geomorphic conditional assessments, and ecosystem restoration design development.

· Manage and/or participate in a variety of natural resources field studies including biological assessments/evaluations, wetland delineations, and plant and wildlife surveys, and ecological restoration activities.

· Follow sampling protocols, field data management best practices, and coordinate with the project manager and other applicable EPR staff. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and scientific tools and equipment under sometimes arduous field conditions.

· Independently, or with support from other EPR staff, engage with regulatory agencies and clients to develop and execute strategies to comply with natural resource law, regulations, and agency policies.

· Prepare technical reports describing findings from field and survey efforts. Prepare technical sections of natural resource regulatory documents including NEPA documents (EA/EIS), Biological Assessments, Biological Evaluations, and other technical reports and/or permitting documents.

· The selected individual will be part of the Natural Resources team supporting various projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and across the Central-East Region.

· Interactions with both regulatory agencies and clients is expected.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

· The ability to produce high-quality deliverables, excellent organizational and analytical skills, strong writing proficiency, and a demonstrated aptitude with relating biological data to broader ecological, restoration, or management issues.

· The ability to work long hours in harsh conditions and be on the road for several days at a time while completing field data collection, data analysis, permitting and documentation.

· Working knowledge of natural resource regulatory laws including Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.

· Experience with wetland delineations and associated delineation reports and permit applications is required. Training in North Carolina Wetland Assessment Method (NCWAM) and North Carolina Stream Assessment Method (NCSAM) is a plus.

· Knowledge of flora and fauna in southeastern U.S.

· Experience with GIS software and GPS units and ability to use technology for data collection.

· Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, high heat and humidity, and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.

· Experience with ecological restoration, stream/wetland mitigation, or transportation projects is a plus.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelors or master’s degree in a related field, from an accredited university. Degrees of interest include Biology, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field required.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a private sector (i.e., consulting) or regulatory agency setting completing fieldwork, data analysis, technical reports, and impact assessments. Preferred candidates will have 5 or more years of experience working in a private sector (consulting) or agency setting.
