The Community Based Sexual Assault Advocate is responsible for providing trauma informed, victim-focused sexual assault services, data entry, and education and crisis intervention for survivors of Sexual Assault in Duchesne County.
Community Advocates also assist in raising community awareness regarding the impact of sexual violence.
Advocate: A person who has undergone the required sexual violence and/or domestic violence training in advocacy, crisis intervention, and related areas and who provides services to survivors through a sexual violence and domestic violence program.
Compensation: Full- time Salary Position. $40,000 per year
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work cooperatively with the Friends Against Family Violence employees to meet the goals of the program.
- 24-hour crisis intervention services for sexual assault victims, including hospital response.
- Participate in a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) in Duchesne County
- Advocacy support with a primary focus of safety and empowerment for survivors of sexual assault.
- Help clients write individualized plans that outline measurable goals and outline steps and services to reinforce the safety and stability of the survivor being served.
- Assistance in completing paperwork for protective orders and civil stalking injunctions.
- Community resource information
- Education regarding cycles of violence
- Help to create safety plans
- Data entry of intake information, process notes, and other data as needed. Ensure documentation in client records is appropriate, accurate, timely and in accordance with agency policies and grant funding requirements.
- Provide services to clients including but not limited to: Crisis intervention and referrals for callers on the crisis line and in the community. Intake and eligibility evaluations to determine client’s needs and appropriateness for services.
- Role model appropriate social skills, conflict resolution, parenting and other skills of daily living.
- Collaborate with and refer to other community agencies.
- Act as liaison between client and community partners as needed
- Support and education regarding sexual violence issues
- Perform additional duties as assigned in relation to the goals of the program.
Qualifications:
- At least 40 hours of relevant training/education or a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or a related field such as Social Work, Family Sciences, etc. and/or
- Prior work experience in the human services setting
- Minimum of one year experience in providing direct services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, or other helping field.
- Excellent communication skills; cultural competence and the ability to interact with diverse populations. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Organizational skills to manage a variety of diversified tasks in a timely manner.
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism with sound judgment.
- Ability to work well in a team or independent environment, with flexible hours.
- Ability to provide active listening, encouragement and empowerment to clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and adhering to agency and professional codes of ethics.
- Ability to accept, understand and relate sensitively to people of varied socio-economic, racial, cultural, gender preference, sexual and experiential backgrounds.
- Ability to operate computer and other office machinery.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that demonstrate genuine concern and respect toward clients and other staff.
- Must be able to pass criminal background check as well as drug screen.
