About us

Freedom House is a non-profit in Weatherford, TX. Our goal is to end abuse and violence through prevention and intervention. We serve suvivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

```Shifts```

  • 7am-3pm Saturday and Sunday
  • 3pm-11pm Saturday and Sunday
  • 11pm-7am Monday

```Duties```

- Answers the 24-hour crisis hotline for shelter services and/or assists callers with community resources and referrals. Assesses caller’s needs, determines eligibility for shelter admission or makes appropriate referrals based on caller’s needs and shelter capacity status.

-Maintains shelter operations to include: facilitating a calm, supportive atmosphere, facilitating client compliance regarding shelter rules, policies and procedures, ensuring client confidentiality.

-Maintaining security of the shelter, encouraging client participation in group meetings, and supporting clients in the use of conflict management and problem-solving skills.

-Assisting Client Advocate by communicating client needs, service plan progress, and any pertinent information that facilitates client goal accomplishment. Facilitates house meetings.

-Admits residents to the emergency shelter. Completes client intake/registration packets, takes injury photographs, provides pertinent rule information through face-to-face shelter orientation and arranges for emergency clothing and hygiene items for the family, upon their arrival.

-Provides crisis intervention counseling and assists Client/Legal Advocate triage emergency community needs. Conducts exit interviews; offering outreach program and information about follow-up services.

-Documents appropriate information in clients files; documents all services rendered in file service log and on the data routing form; documents pertinent information in the staff communications shift log in a timely manner; maintains and updates community resources and referral information.

-Maintains file forms and other pertinent shelter program forms. Appropriately documents all hotline calls and maintains monthly hotline call tabulations.

-Guides shelter volunteers and/or student interns assigned to the crisis hotline and shelter facility and communicates any volunteer issues to the Domestic Violence Program Coordinator in a timely manner. Performs other essential duties as assigned by the Domestic Violence Program Coordinator.

```Qualifications```

- High School Diploma

- Associates Degree or experience in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field preferred; Knowledge of crisis intervention helpful.

- Ability to effectively supervise and provide care to individuals with diverse needs

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

- Proficient in data entry and file management

- Ability to read and comprehend social instructions, correspondence memos, and adhere to agency polices and procedures.

- Understanding of social work principles and case management processes

-Bilingual is a plus

```Work Environment```

-Primary work environment is in the Emergency Shelter facility, weekly work hours will be maintained to part-time status, occasional to frequent exposure to communicable illnesses, occasional exposure to clients with addictive and/or psychiatric disorders, frequent prolonged sitting telephone contact, and occasional reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds, and stooping.

-Must be able to provide self-transportation. Must successfully complete a criminal background check, must read and write English. Must be willing to be available for overnight shift coverage.
