ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Step Up for Better Living is a community-based nonprofit organization rooted in the South Bronx and committed to advancing healing, wellness, and community empowerment. The agency provides therapeutic services, community enhancement workshops, and holistic wellness programming designed to support individuals and families navigating complex social and emotional challenges. Currently under new leadership, Step Up for Better Living is in an exciting period of transformation, revamping services, strengthening infrastructure, and actively working toward becoming an Article 31–licensed organization. We are seeking motivated, early-career MSW professionals who are eager to grow clinically, help shape innovative programs, and be part of a visionary team dedicated to building accessible, culturally responsive mental health services in the communities we serve.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Social Worker (MSW) will be an integral member of a growing, mission-driven team at Step Up for Better Living. This role is ideal for emerging social work professionals who are eager to develop strong clinical and community-based skills while contributing to the growth of a transforming nonprofit organization. The Social Worker will provide therapeutic services, support wellness and community enhancement programming, and collaborate closely with leadership to help shape innovative, culturally responsive services. The position also includes supervising case workers and interns, offering an opportunity to build leadership, mentorship, and supervisory experience while strengthening team capacity and service delivery.
This is not an entry-level position.
Essential Duties
·Conduct comprehensive client intakes, psychosocial assessments, individualized service planning, referrals, advocacy, and ongoing supportive counseling to address client needs and goals
·Manage an active caseload while ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in Apricot (EHR), in accordance with agency policies and funder requirements
·Supervise social work interns by assigning tasks, reviewing documentation, providing regular feedback, and supporting professional and clinical skills development
·Model ethical, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and compliant social work practice in alignment with agency values and professional standards
·Collaborate closely with leadership to ensure intern activities, service delivery, and documentation align with program objectives, policies, and quality standards
·Report directly to the Director of Case Management (DCM) and participate in regular supervision, check-ins, and team meetings as required
·Submit required reports, case updates, data entry, and program documentation accurately and on schedule, as directed by the DCM
·Implement program directives, policies, procedural updates, and workflow changes issued by the DCM to support program growth and continuous improvement
·Represent SUBL professionally with community partners, stakeholders, and at community events, fostering positive relationships and advancing the organization’s mission
·Demonstrates strong teamwork skills with the ability to step into a leadership or supervisory role as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
•Completed MSW or MHC degree (no exceptions)
•Bilingual Spanish preferred
•Prior professional experience in social work or mental health
•Documented supervisory experience, including oversight of interns, trainees, or junior staff
