Job Title: Soup Kitchen Manager
Location: Onslow Community Outreach, 1210 Hargett St., Jacksonville
Job Type: Part-Time (25-30 Hours/Week)
Reports To: Executive Director

Job Summary:

The Soup Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the soup kitchen, ensuring that meals are prepared and served efficiently, safely, and with dignity to people in need. This role involves managing volunteers, coordinating food donations, maintaining health and safety standards, and fostering a welcoming and compassionate environment for all guests.

Due to the nature of food insecurity services and community need, the Soup Kitchen Manager should expect a regular schedule of approximately 25–30 hours per week and availability to work most holidays, as the Soup Kitchen remains operational during many holiday periods to ensure uninterrupted meal service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Operations Management: Plan, organize, and oversee the preparation and distribution of meals, ensuring food safety and quality.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers, providing guidance to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Food Sourcing & Inventory: Coordinate food donations, purchases, and inventory management to maintain adequate supplies.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
  • Guest Relations: Foster a respectful and supportive environment for guests, addressing their needs with empathy and professionalism.
  • Budget Management: Assist with financial planning, tracking expenses, and seeking cost-effective food sourcing options.
  • Community Outreach: Build relationships with local businesses, organizations, and donors to secure resources and support.
  • Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of meals served, food/donations received, and volunteer hours for reporting purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in food service management, nonprofit operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to manage volunteers with varying skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
  • Passion for serving the community and supporting individuals in need.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes.
  • ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain).

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Work is primarily in a kitchen setting with exposure to heat, cold, and food preparation equipment.
  • Lunch is provided Monday through Friday from 11am-12pm. Preparation and clean up takes place primarily between 8am and 1pm.
  • The Soup Kitchen is open most holidays.

Compensation:

  • $18/hour, then $20/hour after 90 day probationary period
