Savory Sous Chef
Life’s Patina is looking for an experienced Sous Chef to work with our team to assist in the production of delicious and beautiful food at Life’s Patina Café & Mercantile. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced cook to join our team in helping create a café experience unlike any other in our area, where food is art. Our sous chef will be expected to work with the kitchen team under the direction of our Execuitve Pastry Chef to support creation of our savory & pastry menu from scratch including creative, artistic decorations and executions for each food option. They will also participate in helping to create our catering products for savory “to go” and takeout products.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare food items and ingredients needed for menu items according to prescribed recipes and/or special requests
- Available to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends
- Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment, including knives
- Ability to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
- Ability to multi-task calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment
- Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
- Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Follow all prescribed portioning controls and par levels
- Maintain food safety and quality standards
- Ability to read a thermometer correctly and efficiently
- Communicate any food delays or issues to Executive Chef
- Accurately account for all items coming out of the kitchen
- Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions
- Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures
- Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Get along well with others and be a team player
- Other duties will be assigned as needed
Necessary Skills & Qualifications:
· 2 years of experience as prep cook or sous chef OR degree from a culinary school.
· Strong passion for creating delicious food using fresh ingredients whenever possible.
· Friendly, positive and highly collaborative team player and pro-active problem solver
· Ability to work varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. MUST be comfortable with early mornings
· Organized, with exceptional time-management skills and an eye for creating efficiency in all steps of the baking process
Credentials in health and food safety training and a food handler’s license a plus!
Pay: $38,000.00 - $39,000.00 per year
