Flight Works, Inc. is expanding its activities in space transportation and mobility to provide our customers with transformative capabilities. Our space product and solution offerings range from advanced components such as pumps for refueling to propulsion systems. We are seeking a dynamic, result-focused, hands-on technical manager to lead our spacecraft propulsion engineering team. The position provides the opportunity to contribute to and lead the development and deployment of novel space propulsion technologies, working closely with others from many disciplines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

The propulsion engineering team lead drives all aspects of the spacecraft propulsion system development, from concept definition to system testing and validation and customer support. This position combines management with a technical role to lead a team comprised of propulsion development and test engineers and AIT technicians. The team lead is responsible for driving all activities across the team, including coordinating with project engineers/managers to support program needs, leading design, analysis, and test activities across the team; complying with industry standards; coordinating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), analysts, outside partners/vendors and internal shop for component manufacturing as needed; leading assembly, integration and test; and providing customer support (for system integration, propellant loading…).

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle chemical propulsion systems (fluids, heat transfer, materials, electrical components, manufacturing processes, testing, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with solid modeling, FEA, drawings (including GD&T) applied to fluid, electrical, mechanical or thermal components, or wire harness
  • Experience with development/acceptance/qualification test planning and execution
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Able to lead a diverse team and interface with other teams and outside organizations
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to handle concurrent tasks, and passionate about supporting product development
  • “US Person” eligible to receive technical data controlled under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR)

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience with managing technical team
  • Experience in electric propulsion feed systems

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
