This is a part-time, temporary, summer position with these specific timelines:
- May training begins
- Camp runs through beginning of August
Requirements:
● Must be at least 18 years of age.
● Ability to work a regular weekly schedule during the summer.
● Desire to help children explore, create, wonder, and have fun while helping children learn about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics).
● Previous experience with teaching K-5 children in a formal classroom or informal setting.
● Organized, energetic, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Regular, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Certification Requirements:
● Must already have or be willing to quickly obtain CPR and First Aid certification (see training section below)
● Must have or willing to get before employment:
o Hold a high school diploma or GED and have 3 credit hours in early childhood education, education or child/youth development may be considered
o Have a high school diploma or GED AND 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for school-age children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor
o Hold a valid state (Nebraska) Teaching Certificate and employed as a staff member OR used as a volunteer at a licensed school-age only center that is on the premises of an accredited or approved school
o Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood education, child/youth development, elementary education or secondary education
o Hold an associate degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood education, or child/youth development
● Must have or willing to get before employment:
o LPS Background Check
o Nebraska Central Child Abuse and Neglect and Adult Protective Services Registry Confirmation of “No Record Found”
o Nebraska Children’s Services Licensing Background and Fingerprint Check eligibility report.
o Power to Protect Training
Experience Desired:
● 5+ months experience in a camp counselor or similar role OR 5+ months experience working with elementary students in an informal setting.
● Background in and passion for one or more of the STEAM disciplines and interest in education (particularly interdisciplinary inquiry).
Training Availability:
● Availability for training May 5-8 in the evenings; included in this training is the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification should it be needed.
REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor and Program Director
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Site Supervisor, Program Director, Program Assistant
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs the following tasks:
● Energetically work with children to explore, wonder, and learn about science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics in age-appropriate activities and lessons. Work to ensure children are engaged in activities and having fun while learning.
● Work to create a fun learning environment while also maintaining appropriate discipline and a safe environment.
● Adheres to all Spark Summer Learning policies and protocols
● Maintain safe learning environment for all children; include but not limited to:
o Check-in/out children attending Spark program
o Provide daily updates to parents/guardians during check-in/out
● Work to implement provided curriculum; ability to adjust lessons based on student interests and needs
● Assist in preparing and tear down for daily activities, projects, and meals
● Supervisor on all field trips
● Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Works 30% of the time outdoors and 20% of the time offsite for field trips. Needs to be able to lift 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time. Uses fine motor skills and near vision regularly.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 40 per week
