THE POSITION

Unison is seeking a full time Architectural team member, as an Architectural Tenant Coordinator. The ideal candidate is responsible for participating in the oversight and coordination of concessionaires’ architectural design and construction activities at O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Midway International Airport (MDW). Duties include oversight of concessionaires’ architectural design and construction teams, review of tenant improvement designs, and coordination of construction with Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), project managers, construction managers and airlines. This position reports directly to the Architectural Tenant Development Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review leases to coordinate architectural design and construction requirements for tenant spaces.
  • Meet with CDA Concessions, other CDA divisions and consultants, concessionaires, and concessionaires’ architectural designers to coordinate design schedules and requirements. Walk the site with tenants to introduce current activities and explore tenant design improvements / enhancements / timelines.
  • Prepare, issue, and maintain schedules of design and construction processes. Prepare regular design and construction status reports.
  • Document construction progress from beginning to end of construction. Including night watch, monitoring construction delivery & compliance of work to CDA standards, rules & regulations. Ensure guidelines are followed and document first night / project commencement with photos / barricade erection / reporting.
  • Follow up with concessionaires, and concessionaires’ architectural designers and contractors to ensure timely performance of concessionaires’ design and construction activities (daily during the week via status update from the contractor or physically going to the construction site).
  • Review all submittals and coordinate design and other construction-related approvals with CDA Concessions, other CDA divisions and consultants, other City departments, other stakeholders, and concessionaire project managers and construction managers as necessary. Implement 60% Design review meetings with all respective parties including CDA facilities/engineers/architects/ as well as airlines affected as needed (case by case basis).
  • Follow up and assist concessionaire construction permitting.
  • Schedule and coordinate any required meetings with concessionaires and CDA Concessions, other CDA divisions and consultants, and other stakeholders to resolve base building issues relative to concessionaires’ designs and construction.
  • Attend presentations and answer questions based on project development or solutions to potential issues which may arise due to scope, surrounding environment, bldg. related issues, etc.
  • Prepare for and attend meetings and presentations as requested by CDA Concessions or Architectural Tenant Development Manager.
  • Perform other design and construction tasks as directed by Architectural Tenant Development Manager.
  • Continue to recommend modifications and revisions to the Design Criteria Manuals for both MDW & ORD
  • Continue to recommend modifications and revisions to the Standard Operating Procedures for both MDW and ORD specifically tailored for Concessions (CDA Concessions Projects Design and Construction Standard Operating Procedures (C-SOP) / CDA Concessions Projects Design and Construction Standard Operating Procedures Exhibits (C-SOP Exhibits)

THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will be a professional with demonstrated experience in a similar role with a strong preference for candidates with previous architectural and/or construction management experience.

Experience and Training:

  • A Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) or a Bachelor’s degree in building science, construction engineering, construction management.
  • Licensed Architect with current registration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of architectural experience
  • Detailed knowledge of architectural/engineering practice with emphasis on design, design development, preparation of construction documents, preparation of specifications, building materials, construction costs, and building codes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in MS Office, project management and CADD and Revit
  • Detailed knowledge of building codes and ADA
  • Knowledge and experience in all phases of architectural projects
  • Knowledge of other disciplines, Structural and MEP FP coordination
  • Excellent business writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Great positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
