Job Description
CLS is looking for a part-time (50% ) Staff Accountant (hybrid - in office and remote). The Staff Accountant will be a key part of the organization, managing the accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning of the organization and ensuring that CLS complies with local, state, and federal tax and business rules and regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain the accounting system
- Lead financial forecasting and budgeting activities with management to achieve the company’s financial goals
- Prepare monthly financial reports and analysis of the revenue, expenses, cash flows, and balance sheet accounts
- Monitor financial details to ensure legal compliance
- Assist management in making financial decisions
- Investigate opportunities to improve profitability
- Maintain an accurate filing and record-keeping system for all financial statements and company documents (i.e. employee, tax, etc.)
- Prepare and maintain paperwork related to all aspects of the accounting cycle, culminating in the preparation and filing of tax returns
- Maintain written and oral communications between the company and all relevant vendors and regulatory agencies
- Manage insurance policies and risk coverage
- Remains up to date with changes in the income tax code and accounting standards
- Conduct research on tax compliance issues at the local and national levels

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Minimum 2 years of related experience (required)
- Experience working with QuickBooks Online (required)
- Licensed CPA (nice to have)
- Experience working in/with public K-12 educational organizations (nice to have)
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions
- Ability to commute to our office in the Phoenix metro area
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with disruptions throughout the day
- Involves sitting, walking, use of computers, office equipment, and driving a personal vehicle
