Full-time Instructor – Steamfitting Program

Summary

The Local 290 Training Center is seeking the following full-time Steamfitting Instructor in Tualatin. Full time instructors train apprentices in universal skills and knowledge in their respective discipline. Instructors teach in person several weeks per year and are available for in-person apprentice meetings, contests, and to support testing.

Full-time instructors are based in the Tualatin Training Center and no travel or instruction at satellite training centers is required currently. However, some travel to satellite locations for special programming may be required sometimes.

Direct Reports: None

Status: Full-time Salary Exempt, At-will, Non-represented

Pay: $2,700.04 weekly, approximately $140,402.08 annually

Required Certifications, Licenses, Education and Skills:

  • Required License and Certifications
  • Class 5 Boiler License
  • Current UA Certifications
  • 5 + years' experience as a Journey worker or higher in their trade, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Forms
  • Working knowledge of Teams, Zoom
  • Experience using iPads
  • Any other certifications necessary to instruct with authority and to maintain compliance

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience leading a complex project
  • 10+ years' experience as a Journey worker in the field, or equivalent experience instructing for the same or similar apprenticeship program
  • 1+ years as a current or former instructor in the same or similar apprenticeship program
  • ITP Instructor Certification
  • Associate's degree or other professional certification related to the trade
  • UA welding certifications in SMAW, GTAW and orbital processes
  • UA Rigging and/or Signal Person certification

The following work activities will be preferred and helpful:

  • Curriculum development work experience
  • Project Management experience is helpful
  • Experience working as an instructor in a similar environment

Industry Knowledge that will be helpful:

  • Understanding of trade apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs
  • Advanced knowledge of licensing and certification requirements
  • Experience detailing piping systems
  • BIM, CAD, Bluebeam, and Revit proficiency
  • Experience with Tool Move and Rigging

Environment

This position is on site, and is a mix of seated work at a computer, walking, bending, and using tools, climbing ladders, work at floor level and above, sometimes on knees and other positions in the course of building trainers, climbing, pulling, occasionally driving long distances, occasionally using a forklift, and regularly using vision to inspect work product. Regularly lifting 50 lbs. The main campus where the job mostly takes place is large and flat, significant walking is required to get from each area of the building.

Travel

There are six (6) training centers in Oregon and one (1) in California, with a future site planned to be opened in Washington. Some travel to satellite locations may be required sometimes.
