Strategic Capture Lead
Position Location: Alexandria, VA
Compensation: $250,000/yr base salary and commission. Commission to be determined during hiring process, but will be tiered and tied to opportunity size and contract wins.
Work Environment: Hybrid
Travel Required: 50%
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced, well-networked, and proven Strategic Capture Lead with a deep understanding of the Department of Defense (DoD) market. We are looking for an operator - someone who can identify a target DoD component and deliver a capture roadmap. This role requires exceptional insight into acquisition cycles and processes, deep relationships with key decision-makers and industry partners, and the ability to shape and lead the full BD lifecycle from positioning and pipeline development to capture, teaming, and proposal support.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify a specific DoD component (e.g., NAVAIR, NAVSEA, SOCOM, AFLCMC, etc.) with high-value contract opportunities aligned to our core capabilities
- Prepare and implement a detailed roadmap for breaking into the component
- Leverage and expand existing networks to establish meaningful connections with program offices, acquisition leads, key organizations, and industry partners
- Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of short-, mid-, and long-term opportunities aligned with corporate strategy and technical offerings
- Lead capture efforts including shaping, call planning, customer meetings, win strategies, Black Hat reviews, and proposal coordination
- Establish meetings with government and industry stakeholders and drive early engagement and influence of requirements
- Influence personal compensation outcomes by helping the company win new contracts
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success shaping and winning large-scale, full and open, DoD contracts ($50M+)
- Deep knowledge of the federal procurement lifecycle and acquisition strategies
- Active and extensive network across the DoD ideally including acquisition officials, program managers, and industry partners
- Highly competitive and ambitious
Hiring Process:
- Cover Letter and Resume review
- Initial Interview - Focus on experience, past performance, strategy acumen, analysis of our company, value proposition, and relationships
- Roadmap Pitch Preparation Meeting - Q&A with Business Development Executive to answer questions about the company to help shape pitch
- Roadmap Pitch - Candidate will present a non-binding strategic roadmap for breaking into a specific DoD component (protected by mutual NDA) to the executive staff
- Reference Check - The candidate will be asked to provide contact information for two professional references. These individuals can but do not need to be former managers or executives; rather, we are seeking references who can validate key claims or experiences discussed during the interview process.
- Negotiation: Commission structure.
- Offer and onboarding.
Confidentiality & IP Protection
A mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement will be executed prior to the roadmap pitch to protect proprietary insights from both parties. The roadmap will remain the candidate’s intellectual property unless a formal offer and employment agreement are executed.
Terms and Conditions:
Any employment offer extended will be structured as a two-year agreement. The expectation is that the selected candidate will successfully secure a contract award within this period. Failure to achieve this outcome within the agreed-upon timeframe will result in termination of employment. This condition will be formally documented and must be acknowledged and accepted by the candidate as part of the employment agreement.
Should the candidate successfully deliver contract wins during the term of the agreement, the company is open to entering into a follow-on negotiation to rebaseline compensation, reflecting the candidate’s performance and value to the organization.
