Full job description
Children’s Dance Theater offers two short summer stock theater camps. The youth camp is for children ages 7-12 and the teen camp is for ages 13+. Our target market includes actors with and without previous experience.E ach camp culminates in a full scale production with sets, costumes and props. We are seeking highly skilled instructors to provide a challenging class while maintaining an inspirational environment.
ABOUT: Children's Dance Theater offers a unique learning experience for children of all ages. We specialize in combining the creative elements of dance, theater, art, and preschool into one comprehensive program. Our instructors have over 20 years of experience, and are dedicated to helping every student reach their full potential.We offer a variety of classes and activities, so that children can explore their creativity while learning the fundamentals of dance. We strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment, so that every child can feel confident and excited to explore their creativity.
ROLE OVERVIEW: We are seeking instructors to serve in various capacities.
Youth camp: July 8th-20th, Assistant Director, Assistant Music Director, Choreographer, Costumer, and three camp counselors that will be responsible for overseeing children, leading theater games, running lines, oversee actor check in and out, serve as props master and there will be light janitorial duties. Camp runs Monday - Friday from 8am-5pm. There are 3 performances on July 19th & 20th that all staff must assist with.
Teen Camp: July 22nd -August 10th. Director, Assistant Director, Assistant Music Director, Choreographer, Camp runs Monday - Friday from 8am-5pm. There are 3 performances on August 9th & 10th that all staff must assist with.
CORE RESPONSIBILITY #1 There are a variety of roles within the theater camp staff. The following list encompasses multiple positions and duties, not one person's complete responsibilities.
- Prepare for camp by having extensive knowledge of the script, blocking, choreography, music.as appropriate for your role.
- Be able to make any modifications or additions to the scripts or music as determined by enrollment.
- Create a prop list and create or find the necessary items. Glass or valuable items should never be on stage.
- Develop a Camp casting workshop lesson plan. This plan should give kids insight into the rehearsal process for the dance, acting and singing elements of camp while creating friendships & fun. Casting will be the first day of camp.
- Interact with parents of campers in a positive and meaningful way that represents the CDT Brand.
- Communicate with parents through Team Ap and the closed facebook group with daily postings. This can include reminders of things kids need, practice videos of routines and fun photos to help foster a positive community.
- Work within the given budget of camp for supplies.
- Supervise and lead any assistants or production team members
- Assist in creating a program for the showcase
- Assist in creating a certificate of participation for each performer
- Clean up the studio so it is classroom ready after each day of camp
- Assist with the transportation of the set, props and costumes from the studio to the theater space as needed.
- Educate actors on appropriate theater etiquette and enforce they treat the theater space appropriately.
- Communicate with the theater staff to ensure CDT is not a burden to them, but enhancing their facility so we will be welcomed back for years to come.
- Work with the theater tech staff as appropriate to ensure a high quality performance.
CORE RESPONSIBILITY #2 All CDT staff must function as a team and be able to put the shared vision for the camp at the forefront of all decision making. This can mean being able to accept feedback, change steps or blocking if requested, adapt or simplify if needed. Respectfully share opinions and accept group or leadership decisions if they differ from yours.
CORE RESPONSIBILITY #3 All instructors must support CDT’s core value of inclusiveness. Our studio supports every actor’s desire to become a better actor, regardless if a professional career is desired. Our faculty mentor and guide every student that enters our program to help them achieve best. We believe that confidence, poise, dedication and self-expression are just as important as art itself. Through training and performance opportunities, our students develop into beautiful artists, as well as amazing human beings.
CORE RESPONSIBILITY #4 Children’s Dance Theater celebrates the uniqueness of all of our students. All guest teachers must be respectful of all students' body types, races, religions and gender, sexual orientation and the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability. That can mean allowing gender neutral dance attire, protective hairstyles, choosing words with intention that eliminate any subconscious connotations to size, race or other discriminatory comments.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Previous theater training at a high level for a minimum of 2 years
- Working knowledge and ability to teach actors to all ages, levels and abilities
- Ability to motivate and coach young students to perform and achieve results
- Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, planning and customer service skills
- Availability to work ALL scheduled classes, rehearsals and performance. Including evenings and weekends (as needed)
- Demonstrate kindness with students, colleagues and parents
- Maintain our positive atmosphere

- Have professional personal presentation

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 40 per week
