We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Day Camp Counselors for Rickenbacker Woods Adventure Camp. As a counselor, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for camp participants. This role requires proactive engagement in various camp activities, fostering a positive environment where children can learn, explore, and have fun.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Punctuality and Attendance: Ensure timely arrival and adherence to the camp schedule.
- Active Engagement: Physically and actively engage with campers in daily activities, promoting participation and enthusiasm.
- Daily Operations: Facilitate site preparation, meal service, and maintain cleanliness throughout the camp environment.
- Activity Execution: Execute all camp activities as assigned, following guidelines and ensuring safety protocols are observed.
- Communication: Promptly communicate any issues, concerns, or feedback regarding campers, activities, or staff members to supervisors.
- Educational and Recreational Activities: Lead physical, cultural, and STEAM-related activities from the camp's curriculum, catering to diverse interests and learning styles.
- Group Facilitation: Engage participants in group activities including reading, grammar, math problem-solving, technology skills, arts and crafts, projects, and physical exercises.
- Environment Maintenance: Maintain a healthy, safe, and clean learning environment in all camp areas.
- Assistance with Lesson Plans: Support in the development and implementation of lesson plans and daily camp activities.
- Independence and Direction: Follow directions from supervisors and work independently when required to ensure smooth camp operations.
- Physical Requirements: Lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds as necessary for camp setup and activities.
- Travel and Safety: Travel with students ensuring their safety and adherence to behavioral expectations during bus rides and at field trip locations.
- Parent Communication: Maintain effective communication with parents regarding camp activities, schedules, and any concerns as needed.
- Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent customer service to campers, parents, fellow counselors, staff, and visitors at all times.
- Program Commitment: Commit to being present and actively participating in the end-of-program celebration and other camp events.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success and operation of the camp.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience working with children in a camp setting, childcare, or educational environment strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic camp environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and engage in physical activities with children throughout the day.
- Capable of lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds and participating in activities that may require bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Job Type: Seasonal, Independent Contractor - 5 week period

Schedule: Monday-Friday July 8th-August 9th, 2024; 8:30am - 4:30pm (Weeks 1 & 2)
8:30am -3:30pm (Weeks 3, 4, & 5)
