Title: Sunday Lunch Bag Lead

Program: Community Dinner

Location: Los Angeles, CA 90028

FLSA: Non-exempt

Reports to: Community Dinner Manager

Organization Description:

Hollywood Food Coalition (HoFoCo) is a mission-driven non-profit organization dedicated to nourishing the community by rescuing and distributing food, preparing nightly meals, and uniting efforts to achieve food equity. HoFoCo operates through four key areas: Community Dinner, Community Exchange, Community Wellness, and Community Building. Our Community Dinner is the bedrock of our organization’s 37- year history of providing assistance to our most vulnerable community members.

Position Summary

The Sunday Lunch Bag Lead will provide coordination and on-site leadership for the Sunday Lunch Bag program. This role is responsible for guiding volunteer teams in the efficient drop-off and distribution of lunch bags, ensuring seamless operational flow.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Pre-Sunday Preparation:

  • Coordinate with the Community Dinner Manager to determine the number of lunch bags and anticipated recipient groups.
  • Verify any special lunch bag delivery requirements and confirm the number of scheduled volunteers.
  • Determine the assembly location for the lunch bags.
  • Organize all necessary materials and resources for volunteer tasks.

Sunday Operations:

  • Open and prepare the designated distribution location for program activities.
  • Welcome volunteers and provide refreshments (e.g., coffee, water).
  • Direct volunteers in: setting up the distribution area, unloading deliveries, greeting drivers, preparing orders, loading vehicles, and post-distribution clean-up.
  • Proactively address and resolve any logistical challenges that may arise during operations.
  • Ensure the appropriate storage of any leftover food items.
  • Secure all doors and gates at the conclusion of service.
  • Maintain accurate records of hub hosts, drivers, and any non-regular drop-off contacts.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and guiding groups of people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in email, telephone, and in-person interactions.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Must be comfortable with or willing to learn how to drive a refrigerated van for food transportation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in working with spreadsheets and calendar planning tools.
  • Ability to function effectively as a collaborative member of a team.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive wiping motions frequently.
