JOB SUMMARY: This position operates heavy equipment in support of the construction and repair of the water system.

MAJOR DUTIES:

o May operate heavy equipment.

o Installs water meters.

o Repairs water leaks.

o Establishes safe work zones, including traffic control devices; flags traffic as needed.

o Repairs landscaping.

o Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.

o Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

o Knowledge of Water and Sewerage Authority standards and practices.

o Knowledge of water system construction principles, practices, and materials.

o Knowledge of equipment maintenance and operation.

o Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.

o Skill in the operation of job related heavy equipment.

o Skill in oral and written communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to climb to heights, enter confined spaces and conduct work with proper safety equipment.
• Must be able to lift heavy loads up to 75 lbs and navigate construction job site terrain.
• Ability to dig pits and trenches in preparation for job site construction.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
