Full job description

Are you passionate about providing amazing service, and about teamwork? Do you know, or want to know, a lot about spirits and cocktails? Do you have recent cocktail making experience? Then this might be just the place for you!

Here at North Shore Distillery, we make incredible distilled spirits — award-winning vodkas, gins, rums, whiskeys & more. We’re looking for someone to join our tasting room team part-time for 2-3 shifts per week, working in the evenings and on Saturdays. Right now, we are open from 4 to 9 or 10 pm, Thursday through Saturday, and hope to expand our hours after we fill this position to include Wednesdays.

Visitors to our tasting room come from across the street, and also across the world. They come to learn about our company, sample our spirits, enjoy a great cocktail or two, and to share good times with their friends and family.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Greeting distillery visitors, pouring tasting samples and sharing tasting notes with guests,
  • Handling transactions in our point-of-sale system for both cocktail bar customers and retail store customers,
  • Making cocktails from our menu, following our specific guidelines and recipes to ensure consistency in our cocktails,
  • Answering guest questions, educating guests about our company, the spirits we make, and our cocktails, and guiding guests to spirits and cocktails they will enjoy,
  • Working with teammates and communicating actively with them to ensure high-quality service for guests, and
  • Helping maintain the cleanliness and organization of our tasting room, and following set up/break down processes daily.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Availability on Thursdays, Fridays and/or Saturdays in the afternoon/evening for a 4-6 hour shift (starting at 2 shifts per week) - must be available on Friday or Saturday night, or both, most weeks
  • Excellent people skills and an outgoing nature, and the ability to project a friendly and helpful manner at all times
  • A strong interest in learning a lot more about distilled spirits and cocktails, and sharing that knowledge with others
  • Attention to detail for entering orders & ringing transactions correctly in our point-of-sale system, conveying accurate information to guests and colleagues, and making cocktails according to our written recipes
  • Ability to lift and move 20-25 pound boxes occasionally, and able to stand, walk, lift and bend during your shifts
  • Ideally, experience in a quality cocktail bar using fresh ingredients making craft cocktails (if no professional experience, then experience in hospitality and a demonstrable personal interest in cocktails and spirits is required)

Pay Rate:

In this role, you would be paid an hourly rate plus a share of the tip pool. Base pay typically starts at $14-16/hour, based on experience. Tips add $8-12 more per hour, sometimes meaningfully more.

Minimum age: Must be 21+ years old to work with us.

If you do not have one, you will be required to obtain a BASSET certification (for the responsible service of alcohol) before you begin working with us, and a Lake County Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of your start date.
