GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The therapist position is responsible for providing mental health support to Freedom House Detroit’s residents. This position provides assessment, conducting individual and group sessions, developing treatment plans, and referral services to individuals and families. This role requires a compassionate, non-judgemental, and professional approach, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for residents . Provides accurate and understandable interpretation of program guidelines as well as maintains proper records according to organization, state and federal guidelines. Role will require travel to Freedom House Detroit’s various sites, all located in Detroit.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in a mental health setting or any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources.
  • Minimum Master’s degree required.
  • Required disciplines: counseling, social work, psychology or related fields
  • Professional Licensure as LPC, LCSW, LP preferred or LLPC, LLCSW, LLP are accepted
  • Comfort with using translation applications or live interpreters during therapy is required.
  • Bilingual preferred (French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese) but not mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and electronically.
  • Reliable car and valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Administer written individual and family assessments.
  • Gather information about clients’ background, mental health history, and current needs.
  • Develop and update client-centered care plans.
  • Provide individual, group, family therapy sessions based on clients’ needs.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Trauma informed Behavioral Therapy, CBT, Testimony Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy.
  • Coordinate with case managers, site coordinators, and other team members as part of an interdisciplinary team on appropriate services and care plans for clients.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential up-to-date client records, both electronic and paper.
  • Prepare reports as requested.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in areas of client recovery and therapeutic interventions techniques.
  • Monitor client progress during treatment and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Work with the case management, legal, and resident services teams to coordinate services.
  • Participate in regular case reviews, team meetings, and ongoing training sessions.
  • Participate in house meetings.
  • Attend scheduled work conferences, staff meetings, agency functions, and fundraisers as requested.
  • Represent the organization at public forums, conferences, and media events; function as an advocate representing the organization in the community.
  • Perform on-call duties.
  • Assist supervisor as needed.

  • Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties.
  • Ability to operate designated office equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and State of Michigan background check

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
