Job Title: Residential Counselor

Location: Klamath Falls

Reports To: Programs Manager

Position Overview: The Residential Counselor will play a key role in assisting residents in their transition to independent living. The Residential Counselor works closely with the Programs Manager and Case Manager to provide support and guidance to residents as they work towards achieving personal goals, developing life skills, and navigating daily challenges. This position requires a compassionate, organized, and dependable individual who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals in transition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resident Support: Develop and maintain a trusting relationship with each resident, offering guidance and encouragement as they work towards independence.
  • Life Skills Development: Assist residents in developing key life skills such as budgeting, time management, problem-solving, and goal-setting. Help residents identify their strengths and areas for growth to foster their personal development.
  • Transition to Independent Living: Support residents as they adjust to living independently, providing emotional and practical support during the process. Assist with creating a plan to help residents transition into stable housing and self-sufficiency.
  • Daily Schedule & Budget Assistance: Help residents follow through on their daily schedules and budgets to promote routine, responsibility, and independence. Encourage adherence to set schedules for work, school, appointments, and self-care.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Document all interactions, case notes, and progress reports accurately and in a timely manner. Complete Incident Reports when necessary to ensure clear communication regarding any issues or challenges.
  • Crisis Intervention & Problem Solving: Respond to resident crises, providing immediate support and conflict resolution. Help residents manage day-to-day stressors and emotional challenges that arise during their living arrangements.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Case Manager and other support staff to develop and implement individualized plans for each resident, ensuring their needs are being met.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all resident information and sensitive situations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a counseling, case management, or social services role is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals transitioning to independent living or those facing challenges with mental health, substance abuse, or housing instability is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trust with residents.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and conflicts with professionalism and empathy.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license and a minimum of 3 years of driving experience.
  • Ability to pass a Federal Background Check.
  • Ability to pass a drug test as part of the hiring process.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
