Overview

The Transportation Associate (Floater) is a full-time non-exempt hourly position that plays a vital part in supporting transportation operations across multiple locations, including the Fern Valley warehouse, CSFP warehouse, and Parkland kitchen and reports to the Transportation Manager. The base location for this role is our Fern Valley warehouse located at 5803 Fern Valley Road, Louisville, KY 40228.

The Transportation Associate (Floater) will work closely with the Transportation Manager, Operations Manager, Receiving Manager, Inventory Manager, Warehouse Operations Manager, donors, and partner agencies. This position helps ensure accurate and timely fulfillment of food orders, supports inventory and logistics processes, and provides customer service to both partner agencies and clients. This role requires flexibility, strong attention to detail and the ability to shift between tasks and locations based on organizational needs. This position will be responsible for making pickups/deliveries to partners around the community and completing daily tasks around the warehouse. As a floater role, duties may vary from day to day depending on operational demands.

This schedule for this role is Monday-Friday from 6am to 2:30pm.

This position requires maintaining requisite certifications. Employee is responsible for adhering to federal and state laws and maintaining required certifications.

What You’ll Do:

  • Transportation & Deliveries (Safety & Belonging): Pick up and deliver orders or donations to partner agencies, donors, and vendors using a 26’ refrigerated box truck while representing Dare to Care with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Order Fulfillment (Respect & Safety): Accurately replenish, pick, stage, and fulfill agency food orders in accordance with inventory procedures and program requirements—ensuring food quality, safety, and care across dry, refrigerated, and frozen products.
  • Loading & Unloading (Safety): Safely load and unload food orders and donations with powered equipment from Dare to Care vehicles and other transport vehicles, following all safety and hygiene standards.
  • Warehouse Operations (Innovation): Collaborate with Operations management to meet daily production goals, identify process improvements, and contribute to efficient and innovative operations.
  • Cleanliness & Organization (Safety & Respect): Maintain clean, neat, and organized work areas. Support a safe and welcoming environment by assisting with general cleaning and housekeeping tasks throughout the warehouse.
  • Inventory Management (Innovation): Organize stock, ensure accurate inventory levels, enter information on the computer, and assist with cycle counts or adjustments to improve tracking and efficiency.
  • Quality Control (Respect): Inspect incoming and outgoing products for accuracy, quality, and condition to ensure all items meet Dare to Care’s high standards for the communities we serve.
  • Receiving (Safety & Innovation): Receive, unload, and properly place incoming inventory according to established protocols, contributing to continuous improvement in receiving practices.
  • Documentation (Respect): Verify and fulfill customer invoices, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail in all documentation (digital and physical) and reporting.
  • Compliance & Safety (Safety): Adhere to all Dare to Care, OSHA, and AIB safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations. Support efforts to maintain AIB compliance across warehouse operations and foster a culture of safety in every task.
  • Equipment Operation (Safety): Safely operate a forklift, pallet jack, or other warehouse equipment as required, following all training and safety procedures.
  • Team Support (Belonging & Respect): Build strong relationships and collaborate with team members and supervisors to achieve shared goals, demonstrating respect, teamwork, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility (Innovation & Belonging): Adapt to changing needs and priorities across the warehouse, supporting colleagues and contributing to a culture where every team member feels valued.

What It Takes: Essential Functions

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Ability to lift up to 60lbs.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Maintain a valid DOT Certification (pass DOT physical, drug screen, background and motor vehicle record (MVR) check)
  • Ability to be available to work at all three Dare to Care locations (Fern Valley Warehouse, Parkland Community Kitchen and CFSP Warehouse)
  • Must be able to follow OSHA safety standards and be safety conscious at all times.
  • Able to navigate digital systems for order processing, communication, and reporting

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

This job is operated in a warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard warehouse

equipment such pallet jacks, hand trucks and forklifts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees must work in cold environments, including cooler and freezer. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to working near moving standard warehouse equipment.

Employees are required to crouch, stoop and bend with both legs. Employees are required to talk and listen without assistance. Employees must be able to lift and move 60 pounds in a single package. Good manual dexterity skills are required as well as good eye-hand coordination. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Employees are driving vehicles in urban, suburban, and rural settings. Must be comfortable working alone and communicating with home office and supervisor through mobile device. Must be comfortable working in a warehouse environment.
