Truancy Liaison Job Description

Job Category: Non-Certified

Qualifications:

Reports To: Director of Truancy Outreach & Teen Parent Services

Education Requirements: Minimal Bachelor Degree in Human Service Field

Job Goal: To provide effective outreach and intervention services for identified at-risk students

Performance Responsibilities:

Other essential duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Initiate case management of up to 50 truant/potentially truant students to conduct root cause analysis and assess individualized needs.
  • Work directly and collaboratively with a caseload of individual students and their families, school staff, and community service providers to problem solve and implement personalized strategies that address school success and school completion for students in need of additional support to graduate.
  • Determine and document student progress and advocate efforts on a regular basis (i.e., Attendance Success Plan, School Refusal Scale, case notes).
  • Provides and facilitates connections with community, resources for students and families, as needed. Actively seeks out community resources and develops relationships with these resources for future students and/or West40 connection.
  • Attend staff meetings related to students on caseload (e.g., IEP meetings, student support team meetings, suspension re-entry meetings, etc.).
  • Regularly check on target students' attendance, grades, and behavior, provide regular feedback to students, communicate regularly with families, and initiate efforts to keep youth engaged in school.
  • Contact parents via phone, home visits, and email to share information and to develop plans to re-engage students in school and promote school success.
  • Proactively communicates with students, parents/guardians, and/or school personnel in order to support student growth.
  • Responds and intervenes when students are in crisis.
  • Meets regularly with the Truancy Coordinator/Director to evaluate individual cases.
  • Maintains support for students when transitioning successfully out of the truancy program to the next level of support (ALOP, remote school, building contact, etc). Facilitates all necessary contacts to support the transition and remain engaged with students as requested.
  • Leads the development, monitoring, and updating of student progress toward attendance goals. Determines and documents student progress an liaison efforts on a regular basis (eg, attendance success plan, IOEP, case notes, etc).

Terms of Employment: Twelve-month Year. Salary and work year to be established by the Executive Director

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Truancy Outreach & Teen Parent Services in accordance with Board Policy

  • Passion for serving pregnant/parenting youth.
  • Advocacy skills include the ability to negotiate, compromise, and confront conflict, as well as crisis intervention.
  • Computer database/word processing skills, knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerSchool, and email, are recommended.
  • Strong alignment with West40 Beliefs, Vision and Mission.
  • Consistent and positive professional interactions.
  • Organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to work in a variety of settings. The ability to work independently.
  • Ability to facilitate and manage meetings in different capacities.

Job Goal: To provide effective outreach and intervention services for identified at-reisk and pregnant/parenting students.

Performance Responsibilities:

Other essential duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Meets with school representatives, students, and parents regarding pregnancy/parenting concerns and removing barriers prohibiting graduation.
  • Monitor attendance and grades.
  • Respond and support students' crisis in line with the school’s protocol.
  • Promote alternative education opportunities to students to best fit their unique needs as a teen parent.
  • Develops and monitors student success plans for all students on active caseload.
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations to create networks to best support students.
  • Facilitates weekly check in with all students.
  • Liaison between student and school to create and implement a student success plan for student’s academic and social emotional growth.
  • Create a network for students to utilize to reach their goals such as prenatal support groups, doula, wraparound services.
  • Continue the growth and development of the teen parent program.

Terms of Employment: 12 months. Salary and work calendar to be established by Executive Director

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Truancy Outreach and Teen Parent Services in accordance with Board Policy.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $47,000.00 per year
