Full job description

Looking for someone who is comfortable working in a fast paced mining/manufacturing/construction environment. Someone who is able to work independently, friendly, positive, willing to help. Must be reliable, who shows up on time, willing to work flexible schedules, deal with a wide range of customers.

Truck Scale Clerk Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Truck Scale Clerk operates and provides timely and accurate tickets to customers, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic across the truck scale.
  • Preview and/or review all daily open/close or shift change orders and information that are received by email, hard copy or other means. Document all verbal instructions.
  • Follow pre-established scale procedures.
  • Perform and document daily reconciliation of assigned cash box.
  • Provide customer care while accurately and swiftly completing sales transactions.
  • Direct customers to aggregate and compost materials.
  • Utilizing positive response suggestions.
  • Compute total purchase and receive and process cash or credit sale tickets.
  • Train to identify all aggregate and compost materials.
  • Attend scale personnel staff meetings.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and other employees to promote a quality image and pleasant working environment.
  • Construction hours, 6:00AM-5:00PM and some Saturdays.
  • Full Time, with probability of winter layoff (approximately mid December thru mid March).
  • This position is in-person. We believe we work better when we're together.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree required.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Strong customer service experience required.
  • Computer proficient in MS office and general internet applications.
  • Ability to work well without supervision.
  • Must have good memory and math skills.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Must possess good oral and written communications skills and problem-solving skills.

We are a subsidiary of a unique, 79-year-old family-owned company, Thelen Sand and Gravel, Inc, that serves the Chicagoland and Southeast Wisconsin construction markets transforming natural sand and gravel, recycled concrete and asphalt into construction aggregates serving aspects of the road building as well as the residential and commercial construction industries. We also serve the organics industry, recycling private and municipal yard waste into various compost, mulch, and amended soils used in a myriad of landscape and construction applications.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
