Job Duties:

Perform motor vehicle inspections for air quality including instructing drivers on test procedures, performing the vehicle emissions tests and collecting fees at the end of the test.

Inspection/Emission N NE Follows all safety policies and procedures at all times to ensure the safety of the employee, their co-workers, and the general public.

Makes visual inspections of motor vehicles and notifies customers that gasoline powered vehicles which emit blue smoke fail the emission test.

Directs the vehicle driver to enter the test lane and indicates where the vehicle is to be stopped to conduct the emission test.

Enters accurate emission test data into the computer system which may include opening the engine hood to determine the vehicle’s emission control information or to ensure compliance with ORLEV and OBD II.

Performs and certifies Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections for DMV to verify the vehicle being inspected matches the vehicle’s information in the registration.

Attaches emission test equipment to the engine, OBD data link connector or inserts sample hose probe into the tailpipe depending on vehicle year, make and model to perform the OBD II or two-speed idle emission tests.

Performs OBD II or two-speed idle emission tests using computerized emission test equipment in accordance with all test procedures and guidelines. DAS Form – 2006 (DEQ revised – 2019)

Issues vehicle test reports and explains test results to customer. If requested, renews vehicle registration, issues DMV tags and collects appropriate fees.

Maintains accuracy in all financial and paperwork transactions by: ensuring the correct information is entered into the computer system, reviewing DMV renewal forms for completeness and appropriate signature, ensuring the proper year tags are being issued, the renewal form matches the vehicle VIN, and the correct dollar amount is collected. Collects fees in the form of cash, credit card, coupons or pre-authorized business check.

Performs calibrations on emissions test equipment. N E Performs daily start-up and shut-down of computerized equipment and test site. Equipment and Building Maintenance

Performs daily housekeeping of the stations such as sweeping vacuuming, mopping, emptying garbage cans and cleaning restrooms to ensure a clean and safe workspace.

Reports malfunctioning or broken equipment to manager or lead inspector to ensure that equipment is safely removed from service and can be repaired.

Other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYEES MUST BE ABLE TO WORK UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS with or without reasonable accommodations. Repetitious bending, kneeling, and stooping Lift approximately 25 pounds. Stand and walk for extended periods. Work in an environment that includes vehicle exhaust fumes, noise, and heat. Work in all weather conditions. Work safely around operating motor vehicles. Repetitive daily use of computers and keyboards.

Requirements:

The candidates should have at least 2 years of customer service, one year of which should have included explanation of rules, regulations, policies, and responsibility for dealing with unique or unusual situations.
