About Us:
Augusta Regional SPCA is a mission-driven animal welfare organization dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in our community through compassionate care, affordable veterinary services, and education. We are currently seeking a part-time/relief veterinarian to support our spay/neuter program, shelter medicine needs, and community wellness efforts.

Position Summary:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate veterinarian to join our team on a part-time/relief basis. This role is ideal for someone passionate about high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) surgery and shelter medicine. In addition to performing spay/neuter surgeries at least one day per week, the ideal candidate will provide coverage for our full-time veterinarian as needed and help facilitate 2–4 community wellness clinics per month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries (minimum 1 day/week)
  • Provide medical care to shelter animals, including exams, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Cover for the full-time veterinarian during scheduled time off or emergencies
  • Lead and participate in community wellness clinics (2–4 per month), offering preventive care and education
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with shelter protocols and regulations
  • Collaborate with veterinary staff, shelter team, and community partners to ensure the highest level of care

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited institution
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice veterinary medicine in Virginia
  • Experience in high-volume spay/neuter surgery preferred
  • Shelter medicine experience is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for community outreach
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
