Position Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator acts as the primary interface between volunteers and The Neighbor Project (TNP) by overseeing church partnership relationships—and facilitating church, donor, individual, and group volunteer opportunities/projects at Networked Savings Program (NSP) Properties. The position also participates in the development of volunteer trainings —and is primarily responsible for their delivery.
Hours: Avg. of 12 hrs./week (can range from 10-15 hrs./week). Specific hours worked are flexible but must be able to work some weekend & evening hours to accommodate volunteer availability & schedules.
Responsibilities:
VOLUNTEER COORDINATION (75% of the position)
- Functions as the primary contact between The Neighbor Project & church partners—as well as those donors desiring to volunteer—to answer questions & support involvement.
- Evaluate new volunteer applications & serve as the volunteers’ link to TNP.
- Maintains contact with church partners, individuals, and volunteer groups to maintain communication and connection to the organization.
- Maintains contact w/ property management to help identify potential volunteer projects.
- Organizes volunteer opportunities/projects and communicates details with volunteers.
- Organizes & maintains TNP’s volunteer supply shed (located at one of TNP’s properties)
- Coordinate with Property Management to ensure that tenants are notified of when volunteers will be on-site (and occasionally invited to join in projects as appropriate)
- Meets with volunteers/groups on the day of the project to acclimate them to the properties and reinforce objectives
- Maintains a master volunteer log documenting skills, interests, and involvement
- Maintains a master volunteer project log tracking all on-site involvement
- Delivers and updates volunteer trainings and training materials for volunteer use
- Implements training sessions for volunteers and churches
- Manages Maintenance Partner program (matching volunteers with program families)
- Interviews & trains prospective Maintenance Partner to be matched w/ program families
- Facilitates initial meeting between Maintenance Partners and program families
- Maintains contact with Maintenance Partners, providing consultation as needed and tracking client contact.
- Participates in strategy and planning meetings with other TNP team members—including coordination with TNP’s Donor Relations & Fund Development Director
PROGRAM SUPPORT (20% of the position)
- Works with Program Manager to identify educational or support needs of tenants, and helps bridge the gap with maintenance partners / volunteers when available.
- Composes and distributes a quarterly Maintenance Newsletter to tenants of Networked Saving Program properties reinforcing maintenance concepts and program updates.
- Work directly with a limited number of tenants identified by property management as needing maintenance supports or interventions.
- Attend monthly NSP maintenance meetings
GENERAL VOLUNTEER PROMOTION (5% of the position)
- Help promote general volunteer opportunities at fundraising and/or organizational and program specific events
Other
- Attend and actively participate in departmental and staff meetings
- Protect The Neighbor Project by keeping information confidential
- Update knowledge by participating in educational and professional opportunities and maintaining networks
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Work Environment
- This position operates primarily in an office environment that is accessible. Some off-site locations may be required and those may not necessarily be fully accessible
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Travel between office and remote locations is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and an insured vehicle.
- This position requires some regular in-office hours in addition to some nights & weekends.
- Work place is a smoke- and drug-free environment.

Qualifications:
Education
- Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Experience working cross culturally with immigrant, refugee or other populations
- Sensitivity to the needs of students and families from low-income, high-risk and culturally diverse backgrounds
- Organized and attentive to detail
- Appreciation for the role of the local churches and organizational partners in carrying out the mission of The Neighbor Project
- High degree of self-motivation
- Strong commitment to social justice
- Practice in appropriate conflict resolution methods leading to positive solutions
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
- Functional fluency in other language is a plus

Computer and software knowledge
- PC literate with strong skills and experience in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency desired with social media platforms such as Facebook & Instagram
