Job Summary:
To serve as the team leader who is responsible for managing the overall recruitment, training, and management of volunteers serving Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (YVAS). To work cohesively other staff design, implement, and strategically sustain a program of volunteers that meets the needs of animals, the staff and community that YVAS serves. Key areas of focus include recruitment, orientation training, engaging volunteers and encouraging increased organizational involvement, creating a system of scheduled volunteers tied to meeting organizational needs, supervising volunteers, and organizing an effective volunteer recognition and reward system. To maintain a commitment to the philosophies and policies of YVAS in the performance of duties and respect the dignity and basic rights of each animal. To support the mission of YVAS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing shelter staff with appropriate placement of volunteers including but not limited to animal care, fundraising, educational endeavors, foster care, transportation, building and grounds needs, and community events.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers.
- Maintain effective relationships with community volunteer organizations.
- Maintain membership with volunteer management listservs.
- Maintain close relationships with the animal care team to assist with volunteer needs for animal care and assist when volunteer concerns arise.
- Work with the Animal Leads to coordinate ongoing animal handling training for volunteers.
- Develop and maintain volunteer and community service volunteer procedures.
- Maintain volunteer and community service volunteer handbooks.
- Update and maintain volunteer and community service volunteer training handouts and materials.
- Coordinate volunteer of the week profile.
- Prepare weekly informational emails to volunteers as needed to keep abreast of shelter needs and efforts being made.
- Prepare a quarterly volunteer newsletter.
- Serve as an administrator & moderator of content for the YVAS Volunteers Facebook page.
- Coordinate and lead volunteer meetings (at minimum quarterly).
- Prepare monthly volunteer activity report/s.
- Prepare and maintain volunteer information including but not limited to name, address, volunteer interests, and availability utilizing YVAS approved software/website.
- Participate in leadership meetings, YVAS special events, and in service and community workshops as needed.
- Attend staff meetings to stay informed about animal care topics, challenges, and needs in which volunteers may need to be aware of or are able to assist with.
- Address groups on volunteer opportunities at YVAS.
- Assist Executive Director as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education):
- Bachelor’s Degree conducive with supporting the responsibilities of this position or equivalent work experience.
- Self-starter, initiating activities within the framework provided/developed with minimal supervision.
- Proven experience working with the public, developing and maintaining excellent relationships to support goals/mission.
- Ability and desire to work in a fast paced, changing environment.
- Ability to work in a shared space with many distractions including but not limited to customer questions and animals in the office
- Professional public image.
- Animal handling skills preferred.
- Experienced with Microsoft Office; design experience with Canva and/or Adobe programs including Photoshop preferred.
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Able to work flexible hours, which will include evenings and weekends.
- Able to lift and carry animals, equipment, and supplies in excess of 50 pounds.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Passion for issues relating to animal welfare.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
