Volunteer Coordinator for Jefferson & Thayer County - Job Description

General Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator is a salary paid position. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible to the Executive Director and coordinates with all CASA Volunteer Advocates, the Executive Director, and the Court system appointed. The Volunteer Coordinator will devote a majority of their time working closely with the CASA Volunteer Advocates to assist them with their cases, their needs, and monitor their progress. The Volunteer Coordinator will also spend time recruiting new CASA Volunteer Advocates and training new and existing volunteers as needed alongside the Executive Director.

The Volunteer Coordinator should have the following skills and experience:

● Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social service-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

● The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles. Experience with volunteers given preference.

● The ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities.
● Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse and neglect given preference.
● Commitment to Southeast Nebraska CASA’s goals and mission.

Principal Responsibilities
Volunteer Management (30% of time - VOCA)

●Supervise up to 25 CASA Volunteer Advocates.
●Assist Executive Director by occasionally helping train Volunteers according to the
National CASA Association curriculum and standards.

●Provide Volunteer support for active Volunteers by remaining accessible to them and consulting with them regularly about their cases.

●Provide on-going training sessions and educational opportunities to all Volunteers.
●Maintain contact with in-active Volunteers.
●Monthly face-to-face contact with Volunteers for case review.
●Review Volunteer performance to ensure guidelines are followed.
●Recognize Volunteers on an individual basis as to program standards.

Case Management (30% of time - VOCA)
●Review all cases in Jefferson and Thayer County that are referred to the program.
●Match accepted cases to appropriate Volunteer according to the needs of the case and the preferences, special skills or knowledge of the Volunteer.

●Ensure the handling of necessary paperwork and judicial contacts for CASA
●Enter data for Volunteer appointments and resignations.
●Ensure date entry and reports to the court are accurate and up-to-date.
●Notify all program partners of specific case information as needed.

●Ensure adequate case coverage during absence of Volunteer or during process of case reassignment.

●Enter all information about each case and hearing into CASA Manager database.
●Keep all records and data up-to-date in CASA Manager.
●Proof, make suggestions and approve all CASA reports to the court and ensure that they are filed and distributed in a timely manner.

●Accompany Volunteers to court and monitor unassigned cases.
●Accompany the Volunteer with visits if requested by CASA Volunteer.
●Promptly inform CASA Executive Director regarding case or volunteer issues.
●Assist in resolution of any concerns of CASA Volunteers, court staff, DHHS personnel, clients and other professionals.

Training (15% of time - VOCA)
●Screen and interview prospective Volunteers, specific to program needs.
●Complete Background Checks on all Volunteer applicants
●Assist Executive Director as needed during all training programs
●Assist in the coordination of Annual Volunteer Conference.
●Lead virtual training for current volunteers as needed

Other Duties as Assigned (25% of time – Non-VOCA)
● Assist Executive Director on special projects only as needed. These projects may include attending meetings for the Executive Director, assisting with fundraising, and other non-VOCA activities. All other duties assigned by the Executive

Employees must be able to work flexible hours occasionally. Evening and weekend hours are expected on occasion. All employees must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, and provide proof of insurance. The position does involve travel throughout Southeast Nebraska CASA’s service area. All employees must submit to a criminal history background check prior to being hired and throughout their employment at Southeast Nebraska CASA.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
