Job Summary
The Volunteer Support Specialist interacts directly with volunteers and parents to communicate, engage, train, mentor, and support so that volunteers are sufficiently prepared to deliver consistent, high quality program experiences to the girl members they serve. The Volunteer Support Specialist works collaboratively with staff in the membership, program, customer care, as well as other departments to ensure the achievement of key performance indicators for volunteer satisfaction and retention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer volunteer questions via phone, email, etc. in a professional and timely manner.
- Coordinate support and resources for existing and new volunteers after the point of placement.
- Maintain certification records for trainings.
- Meet with and support Service Unit teams.
- Process volunteer forms according to council procedures.
- Provide support for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Send proactive individual and group communications to volunteers.
- Support council, regional, and functional efforts and events.
- Create and maintain training materials.
- Modify and analyze learning opportunity course outlines; identify appropriate instructional methods and develop learning aids, manuals, and materials.
- Ensure that all Service Units and troop/groups comply with financial guidelines including fundraisers and annual financial reports.
- Appoints the appropriate volunteer support team to meet goals by recruiting, selecting, appointing, and supervising service unit volunteers in assigned geographic areas.
- Ensure all troops and Service Units follow all GSUSA & GSGST policies and procedures.
- Work with cross-functional team to ensure the practical support of troop leaders.
- Stay up-to-date on volunteer training available, the National Program Portfolio, GSGST council-level programming opportunities, and the GSGST product programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to speak to small and large groups.
- Able to encourage, coach, and mentor volunteers.
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Adept at conflict resolution and problem solving
- Able to learn, understand, and apply case management system in Salesforce.
- Ability to handle stressful calls/situation.
- Demonstrates initiative in solving problems.
- Excellent writing skills and experience preparing written materials for use by the public.
- Experience planning and coordinating activities for large numbers of diverse participants.
- Strong communication and presentation skills including the ability to articulate the mission and goals of GSGST to the community.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to take ownership and responsibility for all performance related goals.
- Technical computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Salesforce, and social networking.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
Hours/Travel
- Regular weekdays
- Expectation of working evenings and weekends
- Must be able to travel within established geographic areas and council service centers.
Education/Experience
- Bilingual preferred, but not required.
- Minimum (1-2) years applicable administrative, project management experience, or equivalent combination of education and practical work experience.
- Experience with Salesforce.com is a plus.
Licensure/Membership Requirements
- Valid Texas driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
- Employee is required to maintain membership with Girl Scouts of the United States of America throughout the duration of their employment with GSGST.
- Must complete and pass a Criminal Background Check.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
