Rippleffect is seeking individuals who have experience working with summer camps or outdoor education programs to support our expedition programming logistics.
Rippleffect is a non profit youth and community development organization operating outdoor leadership adventure programming out of Portland, Maine. We own Cow Island, and run many of our youth and adult programs from our 26 acre island campus. Serving over 4,000 youth annually, we have a summer day and overnight camp program, year-round wilderness treks, youth leadership programs and spring and fall orientation programs for school and community groups.

The Wilderness Treks Steward is a member of an integrated team that supports Rippleffects adventure and experiential education programming throughout Maine and New Hampshire. This position is part of the Rippleffect operations team. The Operations team is a group of dedicated staff that includes program support staff in various roles from Boat Captains to Island Cooks to Volunteers . Being on the operations team means taking pride in one's work, not being afraid to take on any task, big or small, and being dedicated to Rippleffects mission. This position will include long days, heavy lifting, and non glamorous work. However, at the end of the day, this work is very rewarding.
The Wilderness Treks Steward is supervised by the Wilderness Program Manager. This position has these primary areas of responsibility.
- Maintaining integrity of all program equipment used for Wilderness Treks. Assuring equipment is clean, ready for use and well maintained. Gear storage and launch areas are clean and organized.
- Preparing expedition “pack out” and “pack in” procedures for all Wilderness Treks by the direction of the Wilderness Program Manager. Ensuring that every group leaving and returning to the Rippleffect Mainland Facility or Cow Island is successful.
- Provisioning Rippleffects Mainland Facility packouts, ensuring groups have a proper food plan e.g. food shopping, organizing dry food.
- Pick Up and Drop Off of all Rented gear from Maine Gearshare for all Wilderness Treks
- Ensure Rippleffect guides are supported during pack ins and packs outs for all Wilderness Treks
Desired Qualifications:
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification
- Experience maintaining outdoor recreation equipment, specifically: kayaks, stoves and tents
- Ability to multi-task
- Attention to detail
- Autonomous work ethic
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly
- High School Diploma
Timing:
This position has a 9 week duration from Mid June to Late August. With the possibility of per diem work for the fall season.
Compensation: $15-$18hr based on experience.
