Full job description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Worship Director works with the Senior Pastor and Worship Chair of the Leadership Council to support and help carry out the mission and vision of the Music Ministry of Queen Anne Baptist Church by providing leadership in music worship ministries that is in line with the overall vision and mission of the Church. The Worship Director plans and facilitates congregational worship, utilizing a mix of traditional and contemporary music, is responsible for recruiting and training the worship team, and administers processes and practices for effective worship service management.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Select, teach and execute praise and worship music for services, funerals, weddings, events, etc. In the case of absence, make sure facilitation is at a comparable level.
- Model and lead heartfelt worship in an invitational style – drawing people in, encouraging participation, and pointing to Jesus, at least 2-3 times monthly during Sunday services. Lead call to worship, prayer, and welcome moment for assigned Sundays. Schedule worship leaders for the remaining Sundays.
- Recruit, train and schedule other worship leaders as appropriate.
- Develop quality leaders, singers, and musicians, spiritually, numerically and vocally
- Independently manage and attend weekly praise team rehearsals.
- Administer the work and scheduling of all accompanists for church services, including scheduling and overseeing of all accompanists and emailing the order of service, necessary music, and any special instructions to all involved.
- Create an order of worship for each Sunday service that is spiritually and intellectually engaging and aesthetically stimulating.
- Create slides for worship, including song lyrics, scripture readings, and any other visuals.
- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers to run A/V for all QABC services.
- Properly communicate with all others involved in the services to assure their prepared, informed involvement (accompanists, A/V technicians, readers, prayer leaders, etc.).
- Meet with the Worship Chair of the Leadership Council and the Senior Pastor as requested for the planning/execution of special service and presentations, including but not limited to Christmas, Christmas Eve, Easter, and the Church Anniversary.
- Keep track of music subscriptions and copyright licenses like CCLI and Spotify, etc.
- Attend bi-weekly/monthly staff meetings and participate in the planning and implementation of church programs that will fulfill the mission and vision of QABC.
- Faithfully communicate with the Worship Chair and Senior Pastor concerning musical issues and discuss new developmental plans prior to implementation and new participants prior to their involvement.
- Based on availability, assist in planning, implementing, and leading worship for weddings, funerals, and other rental events. Additional compensation paid by the client.
JOB DEFINITIONS
JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or GED, with two to three years experience in leading worship in a contemporary setting. Bachelor's degree in music/music ministry or equivalent experience is ideal.
- Must be a worshiper and demonstrate a lifestyle committed to Jesus Christ.
- Proficient in playing guitar and/or piano with the ability to lead while playing.
- Demonstrate competent (and expanding) knowledge of multiple genres/expressions of worship music for teaching and execution. Particular attention should be given to traditional/contemporary hymns, Gospel songs, and Christian Contemporary Music.
- Maintain a constant program of self-improvement by keeping informed of current music methods, worship materials, promotional ideas, and administrative techniques.
- Function with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
- Demonstrate the ability to clearly embrace and facilitate the style of worship expected, gain exposure from various resources, interpret the Church’s vision, and integrate it into our worship experiences.
- Work well with a team and must be a self-motivated person who is able to be effective and produce results when working independently without supervision.
- Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers, visual media and video projection is a plus.
- Establishes good interpersonal relationships with church members and attendees and relates well to people inside and outside of the congregation.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and cross-cultural competency and awareness.
- Must comply with Queen Anne Baptist Church’s Child and Youth Abuse Prevention Policy and the Policy On Harassment And Misconduct
- Proof of full COVID vaccination.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Appreciation for the Church’s religious and historic significance.
- Does not have to be a member of Queen Anne Baptist Church.
REPORTING
- The Worship Director reports to the Senior Pastor and receives additional direction from the Worship Chair of the Leadership Council.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION
- The Worship Director position is an hourly position - $25/per hour. The candidate should expect to spend 10-12 hours each week in the position.
- This position is part-time hourly and includes 2 Sundays of paid vacation and 2 Sundays paid sick leave per year. Does not carry over. Not eligible for any other benefits beyond State of Washington paid sick leave.
