Youth Minister
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Supervises: Assistant Youth Director, Youth Ministry Interns
Status: Part Time (20 hours weekly) or Full Time – 40+ hours weekly
Salary: Negotiable based on experience
Position Description: The youth minister serves to fulfill the vision for youth ministry. SFUMC’s Youth Ministry exists to cultivate a life of Worship, Study, Service, and Fellowship amongst youth in our church family and the community so that they know the importance of their relationship with God. In doing so, the youth minister provides faithful leadership and oversight of Sunday morning classes, Sunday night worship, small groups, yearly trips, events, and retreats.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Executes the youth aspects of an overarching Christian Formation plan.
- Provides leadership to the assistant youth minister and youth ministry interns.
- The youth minister is responsible for maintaining and implementing a volunteer recruitment process every year, ensuring that the minister is supported by the appropriate number of volunteers, targeting a 1 to 7 ratio.
- Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings.
- Coordinates the ongoing communication with youth, their families, and the church.
- Submits an annual youth ministry budget request to the finance committee.
Relationships
- The youth minister is available and responsive to the needs that arise among ministry members, both relationally and programmatically.
- Connects personally with first-time youth visitors.
- Is visible in the broader church outside of the youth ministry (e.g., by participating in the youth’s extracurricular activities, engaging in groups in the community, etc.).
- Seeks to engage the unchurched youth within the community of Spanish Fort.
- Serves as a catalyst for the faith development of youth and leaders by connecting with each Sunday school class and small group.
Programs
- In conjunction with a Pastor, the youth minister participates in confirmation leadership.
- Plans and coordinates the Sunday evening programs.
- Plans and coordinates programs and events outside of Sunday night programming.
- Is the primary worship speaker in the youth worship, while incorporating others to share the message.
Leadership
· The youth minister coordinates the ongoing plan for training and equipping volunteers to serve with excellence.
· Coordinates and leads the Youth Leadership Team meetings once a quarter or more often as needed.
Qualifications
· A minimum of three years of experience in leading a youth ministry-related program
· A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
· Ability to implement sustainable structures and vision for the youth program.
· Strong leadership skills as well as relational and organizational skills.
· Ability to effectively communicate with parents and teams of staff and volunteers.
· Alignment with the beliefs and practices of the United Methodist Church.
