The Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America is seeking driven, energetic individuals who want to be part of a team of like-minded adults who deliver the Scouting program to underserved youth to prepare them for a brighter future. In the process, employees gain self-confidence and knowledge of teaching techniques while instilling leadership skills and core values in tomorrow’s leaders. Uniform and training will be provided.
Job Description: Looking for trainable, self-motivated, organized, and enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for providing after-school programs at various schools and community centers in the assigned communities**. The typical M-F schedule will include no more than 15 hours. Occasional weekend work may be required. Training will be provided to prepare you for success in this role.
Job Qualification: A youth program leader must have:
- A willingness to work hard and effectively with youth and adults
- Be at least 18 years of age (over 21 is preferred) with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have reliable transportation. It is imperative that applicants be reliable, responsible, and able to get to program locations on-time!
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills to convey information to youth and their families – Spanish speaking is a plus.
- Program leaders must have consistent weekly availability during after-school hours (3:00-6:00 PM). We will work with qualified candidate’s class schedule or other scheduled weekly responsibilities.
- Must have the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Provide leadership to elementary-aged groups and/or middle/high school-aged groups as assigned.
2. Assist in the recruiting of youth and adult members into the program.
3. Follow the provided lesson plans for weekly meetings.
4. Keep attendance logs and plans from all meetings and implement approved rewards system.
6. Communicate effectively with parents.
7. Promote opportunities for each Scout to attend camp.
8. Complete required online training for your area of responsibility.
9. In addition, you will be required to provide leadership/supervision for field trips, campouts, and other horizon-broadening experiences for youth members.
