Position Summary

The Part Time Zoning Inspector reports to the Chief Building Official and supports the administration and enforcement of zoning and property maintenance codes within the Village of Woodmere. This position is responsible for day-to-day inspections and enforcement activities, including rental and point-of-sale inspections, to ensure compliance with local regulations.

The Zoning Inspector works closely with the Chief Building Official, elected officials, property owners, contractors, and residents to promote safe, well maintained, and code compliant properties.

Key Responsibilities

Code Enforcement & Inspections

  • Conduct zoning, property maintenance, rental, and point of sale inspections
  • Identify violations and issue notices in coordination with the Chief Building Official
  • Monitor and follow up on violations to ensure timely compliance

Property Maintenance

  • Investigate complaints related to nuisance conditions and unsafe properties
  • Work with property owners to achieve compliance and resolve issues

Support to Building Official

  • Assist with field verification of zoning compliance for development projects
  • Maintain inspection records and enforcement documentation
  • Refer complex cases, variances, and policy issues to the Chief Building Official

Customer Service

  • Respond to inquiries from residents, contractors, and business owners
  • Provide clear guidance on zoning and property maintenance requirements
  • Maintain professional and cooperative relationships within the community

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in code enforcement, inspections, zoning, or related field preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and apply regulations consistently

Additional Information

This position includes both office and field work, requiring travel throughout the community and exposure to varying weather conditions.
