In response to the pandemic, much of the global workforce rapidly transitioned out of conventional offices to work remotely. In a recent Indeed survey of people who transitioned to a home office, 45% reported that they miss in-person meetings.Indeed survey, n=808 working full-time remote in the U.S. due to COVID-19
One reason may be that communication tactics that work in a conference room don’t always translate in a virtual setting. Social cues like body language and tone of voice are important ways to communicate in meetings, and they can be easier to read when you’re in the same physical space. Video conferencing platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams allow colleagues to collaborate and communicate with each other, but for some, it can lead to communication barriers.
