About Us
Middle Way House is dedicated to providing immediate, trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Our Crisis Intervention Program offers a range of services, including a 24/7 helpline, on-scene advocacy, and support groups, ensuring survivors receive the care and empowerment they deserve. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking (ICESAHT) and the Indiana Coalition to Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) to continually enhance and develop our programs.
About the Role
The Shelter Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the Emergency Shelter. The person in this position will be responsible for making sure that our programs are running smoothly and be a support to the coordinators, Resident Advocates and the Crisis Intervention team.
Job Duties
- Supervise and assign tasks to all part time shelter team members.
- Maintain schedule for shelter to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Attend housing, coordinator and DS meetings.
- Facilitate in shelter programming.
- Ensure proper on-boarding training and continue education for all shelter team members.
- Provide on-call services on a rotating basis.
- Collects statistics to report services on a rotating basis.
- Other duties as needed.
Role Requirements
- Completion of Agency required onboarding material prior to working with clients
- Understanding of survivor confidentiality.
- A commitment to learn and implement anti-oppression theories and cultural humility.
- Comfort with public speaking and working with people in crisis.
- Excellent communication skills, listening skills, strong problem solving skills, empathy, self-awareness, ethical responsibility and demonstrated history of good judgement.
- Must be highly reliable, professional, reflective, and able to work well with others.
- Willingness to work in a client-centered-agency that uses an empowerment model with survivors.
- Supervise the shelter volunteers and interns.
- Supervise tasks for BSW interns.
- Case management oversight and development.
- Manage Client and shelter team concerns.
- Participates in screening, training, scheduling, and supporting shelter staff to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Schedule and facilitate shelter groups.
- Conducts presentations to community groups, as requested.
- Represent Middle Way House at the Bloomington Housing Network monthly meeting and coordinated entry meetings, as well as Chat Task Force meetings.
- Provides on-call services on a rotating basis.
- Collects statistics to report services to agency funders.
Preferred/Desired:
- Experience with survivors of various backgrounds and identities.
- Experience working in a human service or social service agency.
- Understanding of incarceration, addiction and recovery.
- Understanding of intersectional issues and program development.
- Understanding of the dynamics of sexual violence.
- Bilingual applicants are strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of the impact of domestic violence for children and families.
- College Degree in Social Work, or related field.
