Staff Pharmacist

Job Description

Purpose:

To receive prescription orders, apply clinical knowledge to ensure their appropriateness, work collaboratively with pharmacy technicians to compound and/or fulfill orders, verify processed orders, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

· Receives and prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting prescriber orders

· Detects and corrects any therapeutic incompatibilities

· Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions

· Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow

· Verifies all preparation and labeling of prescriptions, including sterile and non-sterile compounds

· Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and/or counseling patients on drug therapies

· Conducts clinical consultations with patients on a variety of health/wellness topics, including (but not limited to) nutrition, weight loss, and hormones

· Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration

· Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols

· Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

· Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and/or participating in professional societies

· Supervises pharmacy technicians and pharmacy staff and oversees all pharmacy operations

· Ensures compliance with all USP standards for compounding, including chapters <795>, <797> and <800>

Required Education, Licensure, and Certification:

· Registered Pharmacist (RPH) or

· Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from a nationally accredited school of pharmacy; and

· Current and valid pharmacist license issued by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy

Qualifications:

· Prior experience in compounding or laboratory work a plus

· Knowledge of basic principles, theory, laws, regulations, and practices with respect to compounding, including USP-NF standards

· At least 1 year experience in providing customer service to
