Great at first, but eventually sours
Brand Ambassador/Sales Associate (Current Employee) – Tulsa, OK – October 26, 2015
Saks Fifth Avenue leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. It started as an exciting retail job, very close to the fashion industry, but it's ultimately all about meeting sales goals, with little emphasis actual skill development. Very much a sink or swim situation for employs new to luxury retail. Management is somehow simultaneously overbearing and unhelpful. That being said, Saks is great gig during holiday, holiday hires earn commission and sales goals are easily obtained. Ultimately, the pay and friends you make with the other associates can get you through the pressure, but without those factors, it is pretty dismal.
long lunch breaks, great benefits, great employee discount
incompetent management, high-pressure, slow pace
