Delivery Driver (Current Employee) – Leesburg, VA – November 22, 2014
Working at Jimmy John's has been both enjoyable and stressful as a delivery driver. Every day I come in during the opening shift and help finish setting up the shop for business. Soon after we get calls and deliveries are being made. The hardest part of my job was making enough money in tips to be financially safe for the day. What that means is I need to be making at least $30 in tips just to pay for the gas in my car. Before September when I still had my hybrid, money was never an issue because it would be almost a week before I filled up on gas. When I got rid of it and switched to a v8 mustang, the money became a real issue. It became easier to deliver much quicker than the other drivers, but the faster I delivered meant the sooner I had to fill up on gas. My monthly gas consumption doubled and the insurance and loan were thrown on top of it. My most enjoyable times were when I drove without having to worry about the cost of driving. My co-workers (drivers) were a fun group to work with. Everyone was friendly and teamwork was key to making us better than other fast food stores. Overall, Jimmy John's taught me the importance of working as a team and how to communicate effectively. I found this job to be helpful and I will take those skills I learned with me to the next job I work at.
